Comic Inspiration?
I'm kinda interested in finding out what comics people started reading... to get into the comicking, and what their 'influences' were?

When I was in grade 3 I remember during reading time in my class I found this book that had a bunch of crudely drawn comics in it. I read it and thus my comicing began.
After that there have only been two webcomics that I've read that inspire me to want to improve my own comic. Those are:
Framed!!! and
Cortland

My influences, in semi-chronological order:
Asterix, Footrot Flats, Calvin and Hobbes, Ozy and Millie, Exploitation Now, It's Walky....among many modern webcomics to numerous to list here.

I read the newspaper when I was little...I like peanuts
I didn;'t start drawing until late 1998, well that's when I bought my first sketchbook anyway. I watched anime....LOTS of anime X_x and cartoons but my stuff was mostly anime-ish
First webcomic I ever read was Stubble.
as for me drawing comics...my big brother said I should. So I started You Wish! a reality inspired stretch on my life. I only offically ended that a few months ago...though I didn't update it often

The first webcomic I read was Bobbins. Then I found a bunch of other comics, then Bobbins went away and then there was Scary-Go-Round but for me it's not the same. I don't remember which site thought I could do my own comic... those guys will rue the day they inspired me!

Used to read Dandy, Beano & Buster when I was ickle. Then moved onto Dilbert. Then started reading webcomics (list on my site, couldn't be bothered going through them here, I think I started with Queen of Wands on recommendation from a friend) & started drawing comics back in April. I used to draw loads when I was smaller, not comic strips but mostly comic style.
I first got the idea of drawing comics when reading an essay by Bill Watterson about how HE got into comics (it's printed in the Calvin & Hobbes anniversary book). The want to draw long-form comics, as opposed to gag-comics, came from ElfQuest, I suppose. Sailormoon started my obsession with manga and Magical Girl stories in particular. I don't remember which webcomic I first read (it might have been Unicorn Jelly), but the ones that made me feel like doing it myself were RPG World and SGVY.

For me, the biggie was VG Cats. There are others, like Nodwick, PvP and Mac Hall that have been staples in my webcomic meal for a long time now as well, but VG Cats is the one that has inspirde me the most. His sick sense of humour, and the awesomeness with which he draws his characters (particularly the facial expressions) makes me want to do better so that some day I may make something on par with that comic.
If I can do that, I'll be quite happy.

My first newspaper strip was Calvin and Hobbes, mostly thanks to my parents getting me the second collection book "Something Under the Bed is Drooling." It went downhill from there. Got into superhero comics big time, to the point where I'm still buying 'em today. My first webcomic was PVP, which I found through an article on Wizard. I eventually started to come upon others as time went on. I wish I could remember what my second webcomic was. (It might have been either Sinfest, which I don't really read now, or Mac Hall.)

"Real Life" "Sinfest" and the old school "You Damn Kid" were my first batch of webcomics. They showed me that stuff on the web can be well drawn and enjoyable to read.
The newspaper comics that influenced me include C&H (does everyone in our generation who draws comics worship Bill Watterson??) FoxTrot, Mutts, and Zits.
And, it all started with the old "Peanuts" books my dad had from when he was a kid that started it all.

Sluggy was the first webcomic I read regularly.. I think the very first one was Argon Zark. (That's partially why I use the word zark in my strip..) I'll never forget the arrival of Badnasty Jumpjump.
In the papers, I read Bloom County and The Far Side. And yes, Garfield, back when it was still funny.

Sluggy was the 1st webcomic I read, but my true inspriation came from comics like Calvin & Hobes, Ozy & Millie and Jack. Of course the inspiration for the content of my strip comes from all the idiots I deal with on a daily basis at work and around town.

Eons ago, I read Archie comics like a fiend. They had quite an influence on my own comics when I started drawing them back in....cripes, around '95-96, I guess? I started Pals in '98, and Archie taught me a lot about storytelling techniques for a multi-page plotline, as well as timing and placement of jokes.

well my comic love originated from print comics. I remember stuff like scud and Mr blank making me want to make comics.. even before I ever tried to draw. webcomic side my sister use to send me stuff all the time, webcomics like and back then I thought strip format was all there was.. seemed fun. Then I got me a concept.
