Arguing logic in comic

Post by Tangho »

Someone posted on my fourm. Basically he's complaining a plot line doesn't make sense. I took the time to explain the logic in that plot line. To me, it is a failure when the pictures couldn't tell the story I wanted to tell. Or just someone who doesn't have the ability to suspense his disbelieve?

If you have a rate of understanding with your audience higher than 80%, I wouldn't worry about it.

There's also the point that we don't need to understand that. It's a bonus, sure, but it's clear the girl is a better fighter than the guy and that's the core point. The exact reason why is not important to the plot, but only helps explain it.

I never understood half the stuff in Doctor Who (which is, of course, science fiction). Didn't matter one bit. I got the gist of it.

In a similar case, I just got bored and read through the entire archives of Conversations Within Elsydeon. I've never played Phantasy Star Online or even really took the time to find out what the basic plot is... and yet I still got most of it. I even giggled at the puns. :)

If it's just one person complaining, I wouldn't worry about it. Also, it didn't seem like it was THAT important to following the comic...

Sometimes readers just run through archives without even trying. :(

What's not to understand about that sequence? Tsk... audiences these days, they don't make any effort to understand. *shakes head*

Heh. My mother does that to me. "Remember," she says, "Just because you can see it clearly in your head doesn't mean your audience can . . ."

Then she goes and admits she only skimmed through my archives and can't tell my characters apart.

Nothing saps your confidence quicker.

That is so true. One of my friends doesn't understand some things that go on in my comic even though It's pretty clear to 99.9% of the population that reads it.

Well, he's the same guy who said my story needs more dramatic peril and conflict or something, even though I only had 3 pages up in my archive.

I don't know . . . that could cause unneccesary tension when I move home for the summer. I think I'll just wait it out.

Well, I'd say that that sequence is perfectly understandable. The complaint doesn't seem to have much to do with the story anyway - sure, it is a question of logic, but I think you have to be careful with applying too much logic to a comic like your (or most comics, actually)

Heh, I also have a friend who has a hard time understanding my comic - she couldn't even recognize a new character even though she had seen the concept sketch and the character was on the chapter cover. :o

No, it is actually the third person complained, that the women in TAV were too unreasonablely strong. (less than 10 people people posted on my forum in the past year.)

People who don't know that sexy women will ALWAY kick the asses of strong men don't deserve the right to post in any forum. Just my two cents. 8)

I thought that was one of the comedic elements of the story.

Besides, when is the last time Miki went and took out her brother with one blow? Heck, I remember when she decided to study Judo more because her brother had wrestled her to the ground and she couldn't break free. (No, nothing perverted happened (then), you pervs you! :D)

Now, our little apprentice martial-artist girl has been studying for years on how to best channel her strength. I suspect she also has been doing weight lifting and the like. So yes, she took down a much larger man, but she also did that by unbalancing him first.

So no, I don't see your girls as being too strong, Tangho. It depends on the situation, really.

Well anyway, it shouldn't really MATTER. Geez, people can nitpick over the smallest things, right? It works well in the comic, and it's not too unlogical. I'd say people need to take things a little less eriously, and just sit back and enjoy a good comic.
Which it is.
