How do you prefer to read webcomics?

Post by Bwerith »

I'm assuming that most people on this forum are avid webcomic readers. (I know that when you assume, you make an ass out of etc, but I figured this was a pretty safe bet anyway :) )

Somehow I've gotten the impression that most people check their favourite webcomics once a day. However, lots of comics don't update every day. And what if you're unable to access the internet for a day or two?

I'm just curious... have you people, attuned as you are to the heartbeat of webcomic...ness... or whatever, figured out a system to make your daily rounds as non-frustrating as possible?

For myself, I've never been able to keep up every day with all the comics I follow. The system that I've come up with, is that I bookmark one page in each comic's archives, then stick that bookmark at the end of my list. Whenever I have the time, I go to the comic at the top of the list, and read through however much of their archives has accumulated since I was there last. (Since my list is 70+ comics long, and growing, it takes me 3 or 4 months to get back to each comic, so I usually have a nice chunk of story to read through.)

Advantages: whenever a comic goes on long-term hiatus, I hardly even notice. Occasionally I get to read an entire story arc in one sitting.

Disadvantages: not every comic has an archive that allows bookmarking. I'm usually several months behind most readers, so I always run the risk of stumbling onto spoilers.

So, how do you folks manage?

(Yeep, this is the first thread I've ever started. Please be gentle!)

I read few comics, so I just catch them whenever they update.

I like to read my webcomics in a box, preferably with a fox.

I use I-frames with a webpage. Whenever a day begins, I bring up that day's webpage, and can easily scroll through the sites of the people I read who should have updated that day.

Welcome Bwerith! :)

Um, I check whenever I have a computer that runs and a spare moment. I love webcomics for some *gay-ass reason, and read them all when ever I can.

and every time I check the comics that update regularly, I ALSO check the comics that are sadly behind on updates. I can think of ONE particular bastage that has me just P.O'd cause he hasn't updated, but loafs his ass around the chat all the time....

Rhymes with "Ginsu X"... :P

Well, besides me that is. :-?

anywho. I'll read yours too while cursing that sushi-eating crud who won't update! :P

I read over 30 or so comics, I check em all out everyday. My regiment is always the same everyday:

Wake up
Brush my teeth, etc.
Go online, log into chat, and look at all the comics I have bookmarked
proceed with rest of the day.

The Webcomic List. It keeps track of your comics for you and display those which have updated and have not been read. It makes keeping track so much easier that it actually encourages people to read more comics. It does all the hard work, after all, and it's just as easy to read two hundred comics as fifty.

I read less than ten webcomics, so remembering when they update is easy. And by now I have a pretty good on by what hour they're updated, so I just click from one bookmark to the other, depending on the day. The bookmarks are sorted in daily, MWF and TT.
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

I use Firefox. My webcomics are all in the one folder. A simple middle-click and hey! Tabs! If they haven't updated, I say "aww" and close them. As for missing updates, I deal with it. I don't know how.

But right now, I, sir, me, sir, choose to chew, sir, with that goo-goose.

Read archives in one sitting from back to front.
Then just follow updates with sharpreader.

I'm not at all organised, i don't even have bookmarks for any of the webcomics i read.
They are usually in the adress bar history (type the first few laters and select the adress), or if not - google.
Some i check most days, some once a week or when i remember about them... can't say i know the schedule of any of them.
