September/October: Review and Predictions for your Comic

Post by Mattgo210 »

Saw this in other comic forum (Buzzcomix actually) and I thought it would be a good idea to see what the Keenspace community had to say:

How did you fair and what did you accomplish in September and what do you have planned for October?

September was a good month for me.

I finally managed to get through a story line that had been dragging on a bit, and I think I managed to make the ending decent. (I've also finally beaten my May Views total this month too).

In October I plan to finally wrap up the intro story arc thats been going on for a whole damn year, so thats something fun.

In September, I accomplished next to nothing. Which is precisely what I was going for! :P

For October, I'm hoping to update again...or at least continue to make minor improvements. I also hope my forum community will grow and thrive.

I guess for myself and my very, very young comic September was just the first full calendar month that it has been running (having been started in the middle of August). As for my readership I only made an 11% jump in the daily views between the two months (but still in the teens if you're wondering just how small the comic is) but I am still happy for I believe that my readership has become more regular. I see in the unique visitors in my tracker that a few do come back everytime I update. So all in all I am pleased with the past month.

As for October its just more of the same thing. Making the archive just a bit bigger and maybe cleaning up the web site a bit. But I am just hoping for now that my comic will grow just based on word of mouth and people just checking it out and liking it.

Well my September goal was to do a continous story for the entire month and put out my comic Monday through Friday instead of just MWF. I think I succeeded, especially if anyone found it funny.

Next month I plan on doing a few good gay jokes and a great joke at the expense of how I draw my characters, and to have some kickass gueststrips to end the month.

And one of my characters will get laid....

Nothing fancy. My comic is scripted until the end so it'll just keep on going. However, it is school holidays here and, being a college lecturer, I do have that two weeks off so I'm going to try and run up a small buffer. It's important my comic ends on schedule so a buffer will be a useful safety measure.

September was lackluster for Role of the Die due to a ton of non-comic responsibilities I had to take care of, like a crapload of other artwork I needed to get done and getting married and all.

However, I am currently poised to make a killing in October, having gathered up a good number of hits (and getting more) the past few days as well as trying to get settled back into making strips regularly now that I'm not so busy anymore.

This September I easily smashed my previous records for visits and pages. With a *little* help from Ghastly.

September was quite successful here. I first tried to update three times a week and have managed it for the whole month so far while still teaching the kids through the week. We reached #50 and finally introduced one of the pivotal characters (important cos it's part of why the strip is named so). As Joel mentioned, it's been school holidays here, so I got two weeks away from the little buggers and I've managed to fill the buffer up beyond the one month level so I can probably safely do reports on the kids this time without worrying about the comic. We also got a relative percentage increase in readership of about 200% across the board, so something was working. Oh yeah, I started actually shading the characters instead of just the backgrounds too...takes a little longer, but feedback has been good.

As for next month, well, the cartoons are all ready, just gotta wait for each update day now. School Spirit: The Musical will open in three weeks so hopefully the kids have learnt their lines and songs and stuff. Wouldn't mind another increase in readership, and hopefully our little forum won't be quite so little by the start of November.

I rabbitted on a bit there, eh? I will stop now.

I hope to actually script out my comic (since I've been a bit lazy lately  ). Then I hope to draw it? Maybe someday?

I managed to get as many visits in September as In August, when they went to 51 daily average from 35. My goal this month is to move forward the sports aspect of the story, and extend the comic's horizons, as it was my inclusion in the summer event plus subscribing to many webcomic lists which enabled me to jump from page 10 to page 5 in the guide, where my comic comfortably resides with McDuffies, Netrek, Reasoned Cognition and Spinning Destiny.
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

Nothing really to report on September, I've gotten into an average stride here..

In October I'm going to be working hard and doubling up my drawing responsabilities for the next storyline after this one ends will mark decypher going twice weekly... wish me luck!

Hmmm, I accomplished to flunk a lot of exams. But that's not just September. I had some very terrifying family events a few weeks ago that I don't really wanna speak about. So it the field of real life I don't have much to be happy for.

Ok, well, I did launch Little White Knight, but that was planned before September.
And I did draw several months worth buffer of mcDuffies, and yes, I did three tutorials.
So I guess on that side I can be happy.

Plans for October?
Giving some exams finally. Contacting some guy who is editing some magazine and is half-interested in publishing some of my stuff. Liven up a bit. Yeah, that's it.

September was good enough. I had the laser-eye surgery, which was the bestest thing ever.

September was a really good month for me. After having forced hiatus (due to computer problems) I only missed a couple updates for the month. September as well turned out to be my best month ever stats wise.
October I'm hoping for the same, but more importantly to be able to update for the whole month without missing an update.

Meh, this month has been 'okay' so far.

In three days, 18, 19, and 20, and I have over 2000 page visits, then it just started declining back to 800, then finally, down to 500. The joys of updating once a week.

Lately I have been going through trouble left and right, mostly with my real life BS, one of my friends breaking up with their signficant other, and arguing with one of managers at my work. I was supposed to add Walid, a lizardman sorcerer, to my cast list today but didn't have the chance to even write it out.

For the future...I hope I can finally announce that we got ourselves a colorist. I don't know what is taking so long, but whatever.

I'm also going to probably rewrite a huge portion of Chapter 2 since there is one scene I dislike a lot. Go me.

Also, I think Keenspace/Keenspot wouldn't be good for the comic. I'm thinking of getting a server on WebcomicsNation when it becomes available. I just remembered that I can't even put Google ads on a keenspace site because it would be competition with Keenspace's google ads. Ugh, I want a bit of profit to spend on advertising once we reach 30 pages and a bit more control over my page.

Oh well.

The good: I got interviewed in Comixpedia, which was a real honor. Stats continued to inch their way up.

The bad: I cut down from two comics a week to one comic and one sketch, because of pressures from school. But that's okay - there's still two updates, and I get to do crazy stuff with the sketches.

Plans for October: I would like to say build up a buffer so I can get back to two comics a week, but it's so not going to happen.
