If you could rename Keenspace, what would you rename it as?

It sounds whimsical, but pay attention because it could be important.

There's been some problem lately with the brand confusion between Keenspot and Keenspace. Every once in a while a new Spacer ends up in the Keenspot forums, annoying the heck out of the locals there with questions about their Keenspace accounts. Every once in a while, someone searching for Keenspot ends up in Keenspace, and is upset because they can't find Sinfest.

So people are stupid and can't read. But I hear this problem has been worrying the management for quite some time, and the thing about the Keenspace sampler minicomic is but one example of this. HOWEVER, there has been some talk of changing the names of the two Keens. To be more specific: officially renaming Keenspace to something less confusing.

*waits for the inevitable explosion*

There are pro and cons to this proposal.

The biggest pro is obviously the fact that we get a chance to have our own identity and brandname instead of being perceived as a confusing offshoot of Keenspot. The Keenspotters will also be happy, for obvious reasons that they don't get confused with us. So it's a win-win situation.

The biggest con, is of course the actual work of changing the name.

Anyway, regardless of whether they're serious about it or not, it does lead to some interesting discussion. What would you rename Keenspace to?

Or to phrase the question more clearly: What would you hope Keenspace will be renamed as should they change it?

Personally I could do without the 'Keen' part, but I sure hope they keep the word 'Space' in there somewhere.

BTW, This is not an entirely rethorical question, since Gav has said that they will accept suggestions from us should the renaming issue turn out to be more than discussion, but they reserve the right to make the final decision.

At the present, Gav's given me a week to collect a list of names we'd prefer to be called by to be submitted for suggestion. When the final decision is made whether they actually will rename Keenspace or not, and if they decide that the answer is yes, they'll almost probably certainly pick the name there and then as well.

I don't know about you, but I think I want them to have a nice list of names to pick from by then so we don't end up being called something silly.

So get to racking your brains and post 'em here so I can do the compiling.

Oh, and the first person who suggests 'Inebriated Chicken' is going to be shot. ;)

i'll think of some.
Anyway I'd go for a name that still begins with "K", so we can keep RPin's star-thingie logo.
I like it a lot. It'd be a shame to have to change it so soon.

KomikSpace? :-? Uh... maybe no.

I think I'll go get my dictionary and look up the K section.

One thing that worries me a bit about it, is how it will work with redirection. Lots of people have us bookmarked as (comicname).keenspace.com, even those of us who have domain names. What will happen if someone uses the old keenspace url, will they be redirected to the new url?

Erg. I hate jobs like this. Naming something with no real definable and consistant attributes leaves you nothing to use as a starting point. It's just completely random names constructed out of cool and/or appealing words. I mean, "keenspace" didn't exactly mean anything, did it? Neither does "Keenspot", "Drunk Duck" or even "Marvel".

Doesn't suit my style of creative brainstorming at all. Ah well.

One would hope so. They'd keep the keenspace.com domain for as long as they've paid for it (and as long as they continue to pay for it), so there'd hopefully be no problem in making it show the same thing as the new domain - just direct the new domain to the same server and that fixes itself. After a year or two anyone who doesn't pay enough attention to their comic's spiels that they still don't know the name of the service has changed probably wouldn't notice if the comic vanished anyway.

Personally, I think the Keenspot/Keenspace integration thing is very cool, but I can't fight mass stupidity, can I?

I also enjoy the irony that I am hosting a comic called "Apathy" on a service called "Keen".

There are a lot of people who get confused between Spot and Space. Personally I feel that the two names are distinct enough for anyone paying attention to remember they are seperate.
The whole "Keensp" dealy is campy and cool.

That said, here are my suggestions.

Keenspork
Keenspank
Keenspiffy
Keenspunky Brewster
Keenspoof
Keensparf
Keensparta
Keensplink
Keenspoon
Keenspill
Keensport
Keensp... uh, I can't come up with any more words starting with "Sp".

I dunno. I kind of like the Keen. I like to think of these sites as twins, one becoming a high-paid buisnessname with few, but dear associates, and one as the leader of the Italian Mafia wit lotsa 'quaytnunces. But they both must keep the family name. It's not Sp, it's Keen! I'll allow Space Keen to change his first name, possible because Space isn't Italian enough, but Spot Keen must stay the same, because it's so easy to make fun of him. ("Hey, Spot! "Yeah?" "Go fetch a stick! HA HA HA..." "Now's not the bloddy time, Francis, maybe later, when we're both not drowning in the cold Atlantic waters!") You see Spot travelled back in time to 1912, where Francis was still a popular name, and the Titanic was sinking. He's rather stupid for getting on it. We won't talk about him any more.

So... with that being said...

"Gassed Goose" :)

A lot of suggestions so far have involved Space and/or the letter K, but we probably shouldn't limit ourselves to just that. We could probably come up with lots of good suggestions that don't either... I haven't yet, but I'm thinking about it. :)

("Comic Cosmos?" Nah...)

Ryan, I like this one! Really, I do! It even has a K in it so Pin's logo won't got to waste!

Guys, keep in mind the whole point of the possible renaming is so that the new name cannot possibly be confused with old one. Suggesting names that start with Keensp* is just defeating the entire purpose. You might as well suggest Keenspanielchasingacat while you're at it.

The Fab 4 are probably going to be ones making the final call, so try for something that appeal to them if you can.

Mr. Bob in the other thread wrote:Well, they could do something along the lines of a subtle change.
Substituting the Keen for a synonym... Like, I don't know... EagerSpace. Or ChipperSpace.

Or perhaps something slightly different. Like, say, Parkingspace.

Or, on the otherhand, they could just take the Keen straight out.

And leave us with... y'know...

Space.

I think StrRedWolf mentioned in the other thread that maybe just 'Space' would do it.

IF we still want to keep the K and Space, I suggest something like

Krazy Space or Komixspace. I like being keen, but a million idiots can't be wrong?

Aw bugger it, Phalanx! I was gonna suggest that one when I read Axonite's suggestion up above...you've already gone and taken it...

So...

Rubber Chicken!

Komicry? Although...with the K it looks of Russian origin...

Two things my advertising instincts* are telling me.

1) Deliberate misspellings, such as Komic, look cheap and possibly childish. A "K" misspelling also imply Russianness, which is not really a bad thing per se but is a ridiculously overused cliche thanks to cold war America.

2) Don't use "Comic" in the name. I mean, you can have "Keenspace Comics", but the name there is the "Keenspace" bit. I don't know why you shouldn't do this but it definitly feels wrong to me for some reason.

I've also come up with one minor suggestion, and that is "Idola" or "Eidola" depending how you want to spell it. It means "image". Seems a bit too serious and cerebrel to me, though.

* Not that I have any official advertising instincts, mind.
