Random poll: Who here writes?
Just popped over to the 'Spot main board - as I do about once a week - and saw Christwriter had just introduced herself there and mentioned she's writing a novel. So, hey, what the hey: Who here writes? Something other than comics, I mean. Short stories, poems, novels... Not really what I had in mind, but I'll accept things like newspaper columns as well.
I write short stories and have written two novel length works,* but so far nothing that could be published. I have a few shorts I could publish but I'm sitting on them until I finish the one I want to send off first. Another couple of weeks'll do it.

* I even bound one into a hardcover novel as a gift for myself. It was professionally done and actually cheaper than buying a hardcover novel. Weird.

I try and write ocassionally, "ocassionally" being whenever I forget about the previous attempts. What I write usually alternates between original fiction and (shamefully) fanfiction, but it all ends up looking amateurish in the end.

I have a novel in the works too, but it's coming along slowly as it involves a lot more research than I originally intended
But I really enjoy it and am excited about the concept /(^v^)\ *crosses fingers for someday being published*

As authors it is our duty to create lovable enticing characters, and do horrible evil things to them.

I've written many short stories, a lot of poetry, and like one novel sized story. Of course, I wrote the novel sized story when I was sixteen... So I'm sort of afraid of going back and reading it.

I started that way...sort of. I've written a few novel length stories, the first two were done in grade 6 and year 8, and therefore are pretty ordinary now. My next one, which I actually sent off to a publisher but got nothing back (something that doesn't surprise me with 7 years' hindsight) I finished at the end of high school. I've been working on another one for about five years now and it's quite lengthy, but things like a teaching career have gotten in the way of that one. Oh, and something called a comic.
I have managed to write and have performed two school musicals though, which was pretty cool, even if the first was based on Harry Potter (the kids thought it would be cool). In a bit of a twist, my comic actually grew out of the characters of my second musical of the same name, which will be performed in mid October.
As long as we can get the kids into line...

Poems, of course of course. The novels will never see the light of day as such, but as comics.
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

I write Haiku and the occasional short story. I'm attempting to write some children's books for the future though.

Yup
I've been writing about as long as I've been cartooning. I haven't done anything much with the short stories I've done, though I've thought of turning a few of them into comics, just to do something with the story.

I write a lot of poetry. I find it a wonderfully distracting way of wasting time, and it's incredible how girls just melt for it. Write them a poem, call them graceful and compare them to a butterfly or some sort of bird or something, wow. It almost compensates for not having any physical prowess.
And short/long stories are great, but I'm notorious for not finishing them. I just get story ideas, follow them through for a bit and then get distracted by another idea.
But I don't really care, it's fun.

Agh! I'm delicious!

Tolkienesque science fiction?[AOD] wrote:Why, yes, I do, in fact! I've written a short novel of about 35,000 words, and several short stories, and I am currently working on the first book of a Tolkienesque epic of some several thousands of pages.
I mostly write science fiction, though. Check - that's all I write.

Why, yes, in fact! Imagine what would happen if Tolkien, William Gibson, Frank Herbert, and Ray Bradbury collaborated on an epic science fiction story, and you'd get something like the atrocity that I'm writing. More than 70,000 words and still not through the first book! ARGH!Joel Fagin wrote:Tolkienesque science fiction?[AOD] wrote:Why, yes, I do, in fact! Yeah, I write.
Working on a novel series (uphill battle), have a number of songs under my belt, poems, there's an inspirational book I've been working on with my dad for the past few months, reviews, a couple short stores and a how-to convention guide for running and attending conventions.
Yeah, I write.
