KeenLobotomy event

I'll update it with news.

The idea is to exchange scripts for comics. For instance, I write a script for a short comic, no more than 10 pages, someone else does too, and then we swap scripts and everyone draws a comic for each other's script.
It's not something I have time for right now. Actually, I have no time for drawing one finished script I have here, but I'd just want to see how much of you is interested in doing something like this in future, so we might even make it an event or something.

A proposed list of rules:

1. We choose pairs. How? Well, everyone should have oportunity to state his favs, ei who he'd want to work with. Then I'll try to make a reasonable list of pairs, that should satisfy most of people. Actually all.
If someone would like to avoid specially working with someone, he could PM me about that.

2. We can participate in more that 1 pair. I, for one, would like to be involved into more than one collaboration.

3. Everyone writes a script and gives it to his pair. The pair will then draw it. Every collaboration has to produce 2 comics.
Why so specific on it? Every once in a while, a writer arrives looking for artists. I wouldn't like having someone labouring for other guy who don't wanna bother drawing. So if you wanna make writer/artist collaboration, it's fine but please, not here.

4. Kinds of comics that we're working on? Well, short stories, up to ten pages, probably, but it can vary. You can use characters from your own comic when writing a script, but not from a comic of your partner. Also, story has to be out of timeline of your comic/it mustn't be in your comic's archieves.

5. Eventually, I could ask Matt or Pin or whoever is holding a torch of KeenEvents at the moment, and make this something like KeenLaboration or something (Hm, maybe KeenLobotomy). And I'll place all comics on that site. But you can have it on your site too, well, actually, that's logical thing to do. It could be an ongoing event with new pairs forming as new interested people arrive.

6. Terms of collaboration of a pair: well, most of it should be left to them. I figure the easiest way should be, they agree about general stuff in story, like what kind of story, genre, drawing style and stuff. Then it's writers turn, he writes the stuff and artist has to follow it. On the other hand, writer writes only dialogues and general events in comic: he cannot force an artist upon placement of the camera, zooms, coreography or number of panels per page.

7. Time limit: I wouldn't force any specific time limit. Everyone should offer his own, but then he's got to respect it. Make it two, three, six months if needed, but make it done in that time.

Well, if anyone has a comment, additional rule or something he doesn't like in this set of rules, please say. But don't quote this, I want to be able to edit it later. :(

I'd be interested in doing this, although it'd probably take me a long time to do, because I'd have to write it over the phone with my co-author... but yeah. Sounds like it could be fun, and a good challenge as an artist!

Sounds neat.

Except I'm too tired to do it right now.

I might be too much of a control freak for that, but I'm intrigued. We'll see what you guys come up with.

Oh, we'd deal with that using a fine set of rules like:
1. once you finish the script, you're done with it.
and
2. you can't change a script you're given.

So you're suggesting someone else writes a script for your comic?
Like a fanfic that you have to draw out?

That sounds really, really dangerous to me. Unless you can just turn down the script altogether.

This sounds like about the best idea for simulating the pressures of a professional environment I've ever heard.

I'm sure it would be difficult.
I'm also sure that if I were to be able to pull it off, I'd have learned a hell of a lot, and be a better artist from it.

So I'm in. I'll start working on a script to share.

How long should it be? One comic? A string of a couple days?

When you say "script", I think days. A single gag would be pretty easy though.

No, not really. I first wouldn't accept someone writing mcDuffies, cause I have them planned too straight for the next halfa year or so.
I'm thinking more of short graphic novels, 5-15 pages altogether. You know, with characters only appearing there.
Of course, it could be done like FF did while R. Smyth was bussy - giving Class menagerie artist to draw his comics. But I don't see much challenge in that.

We can keep our fight on hold for a bit if you are too busy! I won't have much spare time in the future either, so I may have to pause my comic too... :(

Woe is the webcomic artist, forever busy, yet never actually doing anything.

Amen, Reverend! :D

Me: I'm so busy... I don't have time to do anything...
Except maybe watch TV, or play computer games, or sleep...

I might do this.
My stories are much more serious than it seems 80% of KeenSpacers do.
:-?

Woa is me.

Hey, easy people! I can't actually do it now either!
I have a 20 page script laying in my drawer and I can't get myself to work on it because of current exams. Only after all that is finished, I'll have time for something like this. I just wanted to feel the puls of a public.

I was supposed to write a comic for Lars and I haven't done much yet. :( I'm generally awful when it comes to doing extra curricular comics.

But I like this idea. Maybe after Valentines Day and the Blind Date etc are done we should try this.

The project itself sounds interesting, but the guest writer would have to know the comic he's writing for very well. Another problem is, like written above, that some comics are too intensively planned and this experiment would interfere too much with planned storylines. Another way round would be more suiting, means having a guest artist drawing a script by the original author. That wouldn't be too original though...

Sortelli: I have my test on friday, but after that I will try to work on our project. Promise!

You've got some kind of psychic powers, Lars. :D

E-mail me when you're done with your test and I'll see if I can't hash out some script.

Once I get home and have time for side projects I think this would be a great idea. Or even the opposite where you have someone write a script for their own comic but someone else draws it, like a guest artist but you still write the script....(of course I'm sure that's been done before)

That.... actually sounds like a good idea, McDuffies! I'm generally very reluctant to randomly switch comics from people, as whenever I've taken part in "Secret Santa" type deals, it usually ends badly for me. I'm always afraid I'll work realy hard on stuff for someone else, and get something really crappy in return (or vice versa if I don't have time for something). But if we got to choose who we switch with for a bit, and I knew I was going to get someone competent, it would be an extremely cool thing.
