News Paper?

Post by Themoch »

so.... my college, like i imagine most of yours do, has a newspaper that they release every day, recently the comics in our perticular paper have gone soooooooooo down hill that the newspaper is asking if people will submit new strips... a few people, some i bearly know, have suggested that i submit a modified version of my comic to them in hopes of getting it posted. i say modified, b/c one i've been slacking off the past 2 weeks, and two because of my content.

I was just wondering if anybody had their stuff posted in a local paper of sorts....

Any other ideas would be welcome...
It's all about the Sylvan Style.... go check it out.

I WISH my school had a daily paper. If it did, I would SO put my comic (Destructive tendencies. Not J&N) in it. Only in a diffrent format .

My bud Charlie is starting a local band magazine, and he wants to use my comic as filler. So once that starts, i'm gonna probably go black and white with my comic, so I can use the same one in the magazine and website. I'm planning some changes for Trevor Is Small. No more serial comics. At least none that last for more than a few issues.

+ I have to translate the strips I do for them into Dutch which always makes them less funny; English is my native language...

heh, Keenspace should have a e-magazine where each week a few keenspace comics will be featured plus any sort of articles people care to write... I always wanted to design and write a magazine... well, if you Keenspace people are watching, what do you think? It can be once a month or once a week written and run by Keenspacers? well, its just an idea...

Hmm. We could always start something up like that online and focus on pretty much just whats news in the comic scene, and have one or two comics showcased each wekk/whatever. And we can have stuff!

sounds good to me... but I'm not sure how we should go about it... maybe we can get a free site somehwhere and turn it into a Keenspace news portal... I know of a place, it carries an add at the top, and occasional pop-ups but at least it's free and has FTP access and 100MB of space...

anyone else interested? You "in" Jamie?

At high school our paper came out once a month... but I was able to get two commics into each issue.

At college they take orders at the end of each semester for the following one where I'm at, so I'm waiting on that...

But if you feel you are good enough and ready for the daily grind, you can submit stuff to the main syndicates. You'll need four weeks (minus Sundays) worth of material for that.

I was the political cartoonist for my college newspaper, and contributed a lot to it.

Then I got a job doing strips for a small-town newspaper. The character's name was Slim, and he was a local farmer. It dealt with the topics of the day concerning farm life and the world economy...it was funny, but I got tired of it QUICK.

I almost got back to doing editorial work, but that was for a friend's newspaper, and he died recently...I don't know if I should still pursue it, however. I like political cartooning when I do do it, but i have no idea on how to get started in it...

Well, UnFan is trying to get our comic in the High School Newspaper. I tried to get it in my college newpaper but they didn't want something like that. But I do get to draw original comics about hot college topics.

How about just use a keenspace domain? Seems easier than getting a site somewhere else with popups. Plus any page hits would be supporting Keen a tiny bit! :)

Knowing external free webspace now adays, they'll give you all the space you want, but once you use the 250MB-1GB of bandwidth they let you use for the month, your site goes bye-bye (see geocities as an example.)

Just make a subdirectory off your regular keenspace site, and work from that if you want to do it... or even get another account.

I would say getting a new account would make more sense; your tracking page would go uninfluenced by it. Otherwise you have to look up how many hits were for your comic and how many were just for the side project.

If this thing is going to happen I'll be happy to help if I can. Sounds like a great idea to me.

ok, cool... I'll start thinking something up... in fact, I have just got a new keenspace account so we could do something there... I'll scratch my head and do some thinking to see whether it's worth it, or how everything is going to work, and I'll do it once I get settled into Uni... so...a week or something? Fresher's week should be fairly care free...

OK, I'll see what will happen, maybe this e-magazine will happen maybe not, maybe I'll give the account to someone you wants to carry it on, but that the moment, I'm up for it. But as I said, I need to get properly set up in my new location at university...

In the meantime, you guys and girls want to think of a title? the website is http://crosbyhouse.keenspace.com but that name was kind of destined for some comic i was toying with, but if you want, think of other ones and I'll run a poll later...

Ta ta for now!

I tried to publish a comic in local papers. They published two strips, then lost others somewhere.
I got mad and quit trying.

Hey, I already write articles for an E-mail magazine, I could do it here too. Problem is, my english is not perfect...
