Are we slacking on toon creation?

Are we slacking on toon creation?

Post by ZOMBIE USER 3098 »

It's not really strange, but every time school starts, most cartoonists start slacking and getting really tired. I guess I'm one amongst thousands, but anyways, I've found a way around it:

Don't ink my toons and leave them in rough pencil.

So I'm thinking, what's everyone else's alternative solution to such situations?

When I'm short on time, I'll either reuse a frame several times but swap mouths, eyes, etc. in Photoshop, or draw a single frame joke. Obviously doesn't work with all jokes, so if I'm in the middle of a story arc, I'll just skip the comic for that week and stick up some of my old, old, art.

I seem to be the complete opposite. While school was going on I got stuff done relatively well. Went almost daily for around 2 months, then I hit summer. Summer I barely updated at all, went on hiatus, did "social" stuff (or something), and nearly forgot about ARG! Now school and the like has started back, and I'm doing regular updates again. Is that odd? You'd think I would've used all my free time to keep doing the comic. Am I the only one who's all reversed and stuff like this?

Not only am I finding insane amounts of time to still draw my comic but I even get to do the cover of my school year book! MUAHAHAHAHAHA!!!11@

Drawings abound!

I even find time to have fun once in a while; after all, raves are really a two day thing. You just can't work the next day and feel good about it. :-?

Just drop out of school and make web comicing (is that a word?) your entire existence. Either that or make huge amounts of money and retire when you're incredibly young.

Surgeon General's Warning: web comicing has been known to cause extreme heart palpitations and dry rot.

That's a big assumption.

You know what happens when you make an assumption.

You make an ass out of you and Umption, and he doesn't LIKE to feel that way.

I say that all of us that are in skool just ask for the assignments at the beginning of class. Then we do the assignments while the teacher is talking.
The rest of the period is used for webby comic. But I guess that would only work for subjects that you already know.

Or you could just drop out, if you're really dedicated. :o It wouldn't be good for a college application, since that's where most comic writers come alive with creativity.

Or I can be guessing. I just got into high-school, after all. :(

...

I GOT A GREAT IDEA! I'm gonna suggest adding a cartooning class to my high-school!
Has anyone thought of that before? Huh? HUH?!

Yes, school cuts into your drawing time... but it supplies you with so many ideas that your thinking time is more efficient.

Actually, I think most of the toonists on Keenspace are usually around at least 15 to their early 20s, thus I assume most are at school. I could've got my figures wrong.

But if you were at work and thus slacked off more, I can't blame you for that.

Hey, I'm turning fourteen this October! And I just got into High-school!

And I'm pretty sure Sidwood is only a grade above me! So Sidwood and I are the youngest Keenspacers!

Go ahead, point and laugh.

I'm starting my first year in college, coincidentally at the same time I decided to make my comic's storyline and art more complex. :o
But I actually think it might be easier to keep up with the strips, because in my scedule, I have 5 hours of no-class time in the middle of the day, and I'm not going to read the entire time, so I'm gonna bring my art stuff to school and ink and stuff in one of the reading halls. Of course that still means I have to scan and color stuff at home, but the inking takes me longest.
So, I can't slack off... I have a schedule to keep! The comics will continue! No more fillers EVER! :D
(erm, don't hold me to that...)
Something is currently HERE.

Um. I'm wondering.

Does anybody put up comics ahead of time? Like, draw a batch of comics and put them up days/weeks/months in advance? I'm sure it's easy for comics with a duo of writer/artist because the writer doesn't really stop writing, since that's all he does, so they know what they'll use or not use ahead of time.

I always load up a batch of comics ahead of time. It's the only way I stay sane.

Unfortunately, my last batch is out and I have an update due in a few hours. *runs away*
