Where'd your comic name come from?

Post by Taiwanimation »

This I could see as being quite interesting, so let's here it!

Here's mine:
Stupid Melon Dumb Egg
smde.taiwanimation.net

The English name is a direct literal translation of the Chinese name. "Stupid Melon" (Sa Gua) and "Dumb Egg" (Ben Dan) both basically mean idiot. I got the idea from an R.O.C. Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission text book (one of those things with a story in Chinese, followed by a page with translations of key phrases). The translator, who I have to say was either really lazy or really humourous, translated "Sa Gua" as "Stupid Melon". This I found exceedingly funny as the textbooks are well generally serious.
The "Dumb Egg" part was a logical following to "Stupid Melon", it being another common phrase meaning more or less the same thing.

My comic's name came from an odd discussion with my fiancee about how no pornos ever show the cleaning up you do after sex. And thus, Post Sex Clean-Up was born. (Not the comic, just the title. The actual premise for the comic came around 2-3 months after that.)

^_^ odd, ne?

well, I'd actually had the name for my comic for about 6 years before I used it. It came from the hardest level of difficulty in an old computer game called Gender Wars (which, incidentally, was a good game)

Mine is a somewhat obvious play on words. 'Wyrm' is an archaic spelling of 'worm' which was also used to describe dragons and snakes. The spelling is pretty much unused outside of fantasy literature any longer, so I consider it an element of the genre. Since a 'bookworm' is someone who loves books, 'bookwyrm' seemed an appropriate description for a librarian in a fantasy setting (and my two main characters are librarians).
Of course, actually having a dragon in the comic would make it even more appropriate, but it works pretty well as it is.

Elf Only Inn was inspired by all the "fantasy only" roleplaying chat rooms I used to go to, them, and Elfwood (where it isn't fantasy art if it doesn't include a happy little elf or dragon or unicorn, etc).

All these chatrooms were typically labelled Such and Such Inn, So and So's Tavern, etc. etc. etc. One of the driving dynamics within these rooms often came down to what was okay to roleplay and what was not. People who wanted to regurgitate Lord of the Rings/AD&D ballyhoo constantly didn't want anyone else to break the "mood" while they played their little elfling games.

And lo, Elf Only Inn, because Elves Only Tavern doesn't sound as funny. A comic about a brittle elf lord/chat moderator trying to chase all the Jedi and Sayajins away from his perfect little world...

Not knowing what my title means is half the fun, so I'm not going to post in this topic.

The only thing I can think of is that they all live on Adams Road, therefore they are the Adams Road Gang.

My master deductive reasoning should be on CSI!

I wanted something nice and presumptious, and my usual jumbling of flashy words, zip words, and pop words wasn't working for me...
so I turned to Japaneese.

Hanashi means story

So my comic is just "story"

And now I dance in the tulip garden of my own demise! la!

Here's my deal:
Jamie and Nick: was the name of an old klick 'n' play game I made when i was like 12. Then id did a comic loosly based on the first game (I made two) wich set the stage for the rest of the comic.
And since it was after the game, I figured I'd keep the original name (I was thinking of calling it 'food wars') and pay homage to where it all started. :D

The Destructive Tendencies of Us: My friends and I have a tendency to be destructive. And this comic is about that. :P

I think I first saw "Krakow" in Calvin & Hobbes. Calvin was imagining he was Spaceman Spiff and making "Krakow" sound effects for lasers. He's actually in the middle of a test. Susie asks him, "Pssst! What was the capital of Poland before the 1600's?"
"Krakow!"
"Thanks!"

It's also a bit of a play on my online nick, in IRC I get called "KraKro" for short, which is close to Krakow. Now the origin of "Krazy Krow" is a whole other story....

Krakow 2.0.... well, it's kinda like an upgrade, I originally wanted to ditch the original Krakow. It's not really a sequel, so 2.0 is better than 2. Plus I hate putting thought into titles, I don't think it really matters for a comic strip.

I don't know, just some sort of random thing...

I remember Klik & Play! It was so hard to create anything on it. Except for "Arkanoid" or "Breakthrough" type games.

Lessee. Mixed Myth came about because the world is a fantasy setting, with myths from all cultures and eras tossed together higglty pigglty. Yes, that last WAS fun to say. Anyhow, that's more or less it. That, and nothing's quite the way it is in myth. That's my goal, anyhow.

Oi...

Well you see when I first started making hentai art back in 1999 I decided to start with Pokemon since it was so insanely popular at the time and one of the characters, James, tended to crossdress a lot.

I wrote some dark fantasy pokemon lemons before I started drawing hentai and I wanted to use a pen name. Since the lemons involved lots of rough sex and bondage and what-not I figured they were rather "ghastly" so I picked the pen name Ghastly both because of that and because there was a pokemon named "Gastly".

Then I started drawing hentai art work and kept the same pen name. Eventually I set up a really crappy (and I mean it, because I couldn't draw worth suck at the time, nor did I know SDA about HTML) hentai webpage called "Ghastly's Ghastly Hentai". Later when I decided to start a webcomic I called it "Ghastly's Ghastly Comic" in part to cash in on the minor fame of my hentai days.

For those into serious kink and who don't mind the odd spelling mistake I still have my old lemons.

Playtime For Ghost Pokemon
Playtime For Ash And Brock
Playtime For Ash's Pokemon
Playtime For Team Rocket
Playtime For Office Jenny

I never finished the Playtime Series because I became caught up in the whole webcomic thing. I doubt I'll ever get around to finishing it but when I do I'll put them in a special section perhaps on my comic as a bonus feature.

For those who want something a little softer you can read Sakura.

Like I said before.... I'm not proud.

Adventures in Elbert County

Post by SpicedNutmeg »

Well, I don't have my space yet but I'm signed up so I guess I can post on this.

"Adventures in Elbert County" comes from the actual county that the inspiration for my main character lives. True stories from Elbert County include being run off the road by a bi-plane and almost hitting a llama. The newspaper for the county is 6 pages long, 2 of which are a calendar with a total of 2 hay rides and 1 rodeo per month. Therefore "Adventures in Elbert County."

Just to get this out of the way, the main character's name is "E", but this does not stand for "Elbert" nor am I trying to steal from "Dilbert" in any way. Stay tuned for "Adventures in Elbert County", coming whenever I get my space.

Snirz.

Well, Paragon Fishing. What does it mean? Don't exactly know. UnFan and Me picked it because we thought it sounded cool because the words run together, you know. It's linda like that Wheel of Fortune Before & After puzzle.

I read a book called "adam of the road" once, but It was about a bard, and not very good so I'm not sure if it relates.

I know what the title means, but that'd spoil the fun now wouldn't it? ^.^

Ah, as for my name humm? Noggin'. Well it's got a little bit of history. Noggin as you all know is your brain. Nogging however is "Brickwork used to fill in the open spaces in a wall between studs or or other framing members."
"A short horizontal wooden beam used to strengthen upright posts in the framework of a wall."

Buuuutttt, Noggin', in Malay means Dragon. So whatever the heck that lot's got to do with anything I don't know...

Errrr...

...

I'm lost. Noggy's just something my dad used to call me so, errr, name ahoy...
