Major jump in readership

Post by ZOMBIE USER 68 »

Has anyone else had a tremendous increase in pageviews/visits recently? It's weird... I had almost quadruple the pageviews I usually get on August 27th, and it's stayed steady like that ever since. Is this a back to school thing? What the hell is going on?

...not that I'm complaining ;)

I think there was a significant increase in visits in August for me too.

I know what you mean! My average number of visits per day jumped from 4 all the way to...7!

Hmm... Mine jumped from 13 to 14. Weehee. :)

But maybe August is somekind cosmic crosspoint of intergalactic readers from Alpha Centauri and Vega and other neat places. Certainly my readers are from outer space since none of them understand any of our languages. Or at least they won't write anything on the forum or send me any emails.

*Sniff* I feel so lonely...

This might be to blame...
I've noticed a jump in readership too, but that's because I've been linked to by new people recently (yay, thanks people!!!) ^_^

Curse you! Your increases in readership are making my percentage of Keenspace pageviews smaller! :)

I... Don't know... How the heck am I supposed to know?! I tried installing a counter and it wanted to know who's hosting me!

What kind of silly questoin is that! I mean, no one knows who's hosting me, especially not me... Maybe if I did a Whois on myself something'll come up... But most possibly not...

Meh, I'm at a loss, *sniffle* it's free unlimited bandwidth and space and it ain't that bad speed wise but who or what those hosters are I do not know...

Oh, and no, I'm not with Keenspace ^.^

Sooo... Any ideas? A counter would be rather nice... Not that I really care... But knowing who's hosting you for free would be good... Possibly... Hummm, maybe that's something I shouldn't know? Maybe I'm breaking some wierd taboo that'll lead to the downfall of earth and the entire destruction of the human race by giant Pickloids from out space...

Or maybe the weed being smoked in the office is getting to me?

Mmmm, chocolate... *zombie walks to the fridge*

My readership increased from 7000 to 8000 two weeks ago and then from 8000 to 9000 last week.

Needless to say I hope this trend continues.

Maybe it has to do with some students moving back to college and getting computer access again. I don't know.

I also had a jump around the 27th from about 3 or 4 per day to about 60 or 70 per day but I attribute it to the fact that I did a guest comic for someone. I don't think its the guide, either. Very few of my hits seem to be coming from the address that would mean people were getting to it from the guide.

I don't know... I'd check my stats, but... oh yeah, Keenspace is down.

I have to concur that my stats exploded! Both Visits and Page Views doubled. I have feeling it was due to all the maintenace being done though.

Wow, what a load of crap one writes when you've just got into work after no breaky and just haven't quite made that cup of coffee yet...

Errr, yeah. What I meant to say was that I haven't a clue how many visits I get, since, quite simply, I don't know... Whence the time came to finally install a counter I was stumped by the single question; "What is your host's address?"

Mmm, soooo... I'm guessing someone must read my comic... I just can't help but wonder who...

Mmmm... *goes back to playing joust- errr, Work...*

It's the back to school special. More people in dorms = more people with broadband = more people reading webcomics.

Okay people...

If you have an increase in "hits" but not "visits" , then this is likely due to direct-linking AKA hotlinking to your banners/avatars from forums, or the current guide (not the beta one)

If you have an increase in BOTH the hits and the visits, then this is likely due to the maintenance that sped up the server considerably.

Do not confuse hits for actual visits, a "hit" is any file loaded. A "visit" is an actual non-image request. If your banner is floating around on a banner directly linked, every single person who reads the forum is going to register a hit to your site without actually visiting your site.

getting a link on boxjam's doodle and starting my own dropdown (fake ID space) didn't hurt my hitrate, it jumped from about 100 hits a day to over a 1000 and visits went up from about 20 to over 100.

But woudn't an increase in pageviews without an increase in visits indicate more people viewing the comic from proxy servers, ie, Universities?

Nooo...can't say I did...

But I would love to get like 100 views a day, really, I would. As of now I get about 7-8 visits a day (and over 150 hits) but still, that could stand to go up a bit.
