can someone point me in the right direction?

For discussions, announcements, non-technical questions and anything else comics-related or otherwise that doesn't fit in any of the other categories.

I was wondering if anyone knew where to find a good comic font... I did find one place, but if I even wanted to publish[which would be a LOOOONNNGGGG time from now] I would have to pay him a fee >,< and I know he has his rights to do that, so that is why I'm looking for other ones I could use ^.^

http://www.blambot.com I think that is the correct link.

I think by the time you'd decide to publish, you'd have to have made enough money to pay fees, in anycase.

I need a font, too, and I really will not pay for one... it may sound jerkish, but I'm doing the cartoon for free anyways. And I know that Comic Sans MS and Comix have been done to death... does anyone know the program that Scott Adams used to make his font?

Yup, you and me both!! {did that make any sense?} I don't wanna pay to use it, all I wanna do, is if I do publish, I wanna put a "And many thanks to ~~~~ for letting use us thie font" but not have to pay to do that >,< That is why I'm looking for another web page with good comic fonts, since I really doubt that I'll become rich when/if I publish >,<

http://www.blambot.com/license.html
Blambot End User License Agreement - Free Fonts
This license pertains only to those fonts found in the Dialogue, SFX,Title, and Symbols, sections.

These fonts are freeware for independent comic book creation and non-profit use ONLY. ( This excludes use by "mainstream" publishers, (Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, Oni, Image, SLG, Top Cow, Wildstorm, Crossgen and their subsidiaries) without a license fee. Use by a "mainstream" publisher (or it's employee), and use for mainstream comics, or non-comic for-profit endeavors incurs a license fee be paid to the designer, Nate Piekos. In Essence, this means:
---- Anyone may use these fonts for non-profit projects.
---- If you are an independent self-publisher/creator you may use these fonts for ANY project, for profit or non profit.
---- If you are publishing comics through a mainstream company (see above) there is a license fee.
---- If you are not an independent comic creator and you intend to use these fonts in a commercial project, there is a license fee.
E-mail Blambot for specific fonts' license fees, and for an invoice for your records.
I would assume that your comic is non-profit. The only thing I'm a bit unclear about is what an "independant self-publisher/creator" is defined as and how Keenspace figures into all of it.

I use SF Cartoonist Hand which (peeking at font info) was created by Derek Vogelpohl. I can't remember where I originally downloaded it from, but it's archived along with many of his other fonts at: http://moorstation.org/typoasis/designe ... /shy01.htm

it is non-profit right now... but I would HOPE to make a few $s if I did publish... though I'm not sure anyone would buy it -.-;;

Well Blambot is still the best resource in fonts as far as I know (since he makes them specifically for websites). And assuming you do make money from your comic (which will probably take some time anyhoo so might has well have some nice fonts in the mean time), and it's really not expensive to pay for those fonts if you have too, I think you could easily afford it. What's more most free fonts on the internet have the same clause, you can use it for free if it's non-profit but you'll have to pay (again cheap) if you start making money off it. I would imagine wherever you go you're either going to download some blambot fonts unknowingly (many free font sites carry some of his), or you'll get similiar fonts with the same deal so don't worry about it.

Even though I use Tempus Sans ITC (I think it came with my computer, or on a font cd I bought for $2 in the bargain bin at Staples...) I have found that a great place for fonts is http://www.acidfonts.com/index1.html. They're completely utterly free, and there's no fee no matter how you use them. A font I recommend from that site is "Anime Ace" and is a very nice round-looking all caps comic font. Or, I have an art tutorial site, with downloadable font grabbag zips (because I just threw stuff in the zips to make it "interesting and random") at http://www.geocities.com/uchinoart/ under "Downloads".
Either way, it's all free! Hope this helps! ^_^

Yes, I lurk in the Forums at 3 AM. I'm an insomniac! Wheee! o_0

They have hundreds of free fonts made by a bunch of random people. It's kinda hard not to find one you don't like here, I have downloaded at least 50 from here.

The agreement is clear. You can use the fonts freely.

First of all, none of the comics on Keenspace are for profit, because they are free to view.

Secondly, Keenspace isn't a publisher. Keenspace is a distributor.

Use Blambot fonts to your heart's content, unless you happen to be an employee of Marvel comics or something.
