What's yer lead toon front-man based on?
Lesse... since I've got two main characters...
Sera is based off of me. She tends to get depressed easily, but bounces back quickly (with a good reason). She's smart, but doesn't flaunt that. She doesn't have a lot of friends... just Aschi and Ayren... and she preffers it that way; a few close friends instead of a whole bunch of aquaintances. She tends to have very low self-esteem.
Ayren was supposed to be modeled off my boyfriend... but he came out a lot more like my friend John, down to the glasses and the trenchcoat (which you all haven't seen yet, since that part isn't up yet). He's kinda depressed, and moody. Definitely angsty. Thinks too much for his own good.
Strangely enough, a lot of people have told me that he sort of looks like Piro from MegaTokyo... but *I* don't see that. x.x I still think he looks like an anime version of my friend John...

------------------

My main character, Harry, is rather boringly based on me. Only whinier.
But his comic foil, Wendell the mummy, is based on a few roommates I've had, which is where it gets kind of interesting. And, hopefully, funny.
Actually, the whole museum is full of people who I've found exasperating at some point.

Who/what is everyone's toon frontman (or woman) based on? Fer me, I modeled my main guy, Misha, after me (his personality, not his looks). For other characters, they are partially based on my friends or just imaginary personalities w/ a base from the MBTI.
I'm curious about it, that is all.
-Albrecht http://ntnation.keenspace.com
---------------------------------------------

I've got over a dozen characters, and the "main" one seems to change about every week--I think it's Briefcase, but then it's Dr. Ultra, then it's Harve Mannlicher...most of them are based on nothing more than my own brain, but there are a couple based on people I know.
No, I'm not going to tell you who.
I never go into character creation thinking, "Hey, I'll base this guy on Bill," but I do notice after a few appearances that some characters do start taking on certain traits of friends or relatives.
So, there you go...

------------------

My main guy (if I actually have one) is sorta-kinda based on me. Most of the characters are based on people I know, but it should be noted are not neccessarily the way those people would react.
Or something.
------------------

My main characters were based on myself (!-guy) and my best friend Kris (@-guy), who does Nasty Chocolates; but they got fired from the comic a few days ago. So, the new front man is probably Nick who is based on Nikola Tesla in looks and intelegence and myself in personality. But then Mr. Dinosaur always thought he was the #1 man/woman/transgendered Dinosaur.
------------------

Interesting question!
Man-Man is a pretty straight-up superhero parody, and my partner James came up with the concept so I don't know if he's based on anyone in particular. Paul, the sidekick, is purely fictitious, and an attempt to capture the persona of the guy in his early thirties who is doing fairly well for himself but still seems to be exhausted by life.
The second-string characters are more based on real people...Frenchy is a combination of the ridiculous butler character from the old Moon Knight comic and Hercule Poirot (being Belgian), The Kid Everyone Hated In High School is actually the kid James hated in high school, and our "YOU ARE THE VILLAIN" contest generated a villain by the amazing Kenn Scott that is based wholly on the amazing Kenn Scott. And so on.
------------------

Go figure. A lot of our throwaway cast tends to be historical figures like Beethoven, Jacques Derrida and Louis Pasteur, who I just toss into the strip because I think it's funny in some weird, arcane way.
------------------

I have two main characters.
Nama is based on one of my friends, but personality-wise.
Jared is based on another friend, except in real life he takes the sunglasses off. Actually, he never wears sunglasses...
The other characters that appear now and then are personality archetypes for the most part, but occasionally are based on real-life people (i.e. Red in my "evil landlord" strip, or the waiter in the most recent one)
----

In fact, the only character in the comic who is even remotely based on any real "person" is Nezhoni, the giant rat, who is in part loosely based on a pet rat I had at the time who had a rather nasty disposition. What's wrong with basing your characters on yourself? One of the basic rules of writing is to write about what you know, and who do you know better than yourself (in most cases).
The characters of my comic are based on me, my artist and some guy I know. Well loosely based and only at first. I originally planned on basing Dade and Sin on me and Liz but they both came into their own, they're much better characters than I could have dreamed. Kip is still loosely based on a guy who's in a frat that I know, strangely also named Kipp. He's basically the embodiment of people who criticize anime and the fans of it, he's also meant to be the atypical frat guy.
------------------

My main character in apearence was based off an illustration from a book of childrens horror stories strangly enough. But he himself is based on everything innocent you can think of and tossed in is a peice of the hobbit.
