Voting sites
I was wondering what voting site everyone uses. And wondering if we could set up a sydicate to all vote for each other.

Re: Voting sites
Most of them are dead. I'm on topwebcomics, but even if we all voted for each other, we'd have a chance for places somewhere around 300. In the morning. Comic Ranking - I have a button and I don't get it. I wanted to try the webcomic list but it kept telling me that my comic, "the CRIMINAL mastermind" is already there and I couldn't register for support.

You can't ever outvote fans of the latest two-gamers-sit-on-a-couch copy-paste comic.

I also am on topwebcomics, and it's fun and all but I don't expect to make any significant headway there. The top 100 or so have been almost exactly the same, with a few swapping in and out at the bottom, since I joined up in Oct or Nov of this past year.

Re: Voting sites
It's a good idea in theory, tho like Duffies said, in practice it might be another matter.
In my experince with furry fans, they worship their favorite artists, and any attempt to criticize, unseat their ranking, or anything else to upend their status quo is always met with a co-ordinated counteroffensive to quash the interloper, kind of like bees protecting their hive when it's disturbed. I can easily imagine that dynamic happening outside the furry realm, thus ensuring that the top 100 webcomics stay the top 100 webcomics. I would further propose that it would be hard for any toonsmith to break through the clutter in such a comic listing anyway; you'd probably have to be a complete phenom to rank high.
In other words I probably need not apply...

Re: Voting sites
I heard that if you want high rankings on those sites you have to be in college with a lot of friends who will vote for you.

Re: Voting sites
I'm also on top webcomics. And while I have to admit we'd struggle to break into the top 100 I still feel like I should be trying. To hit the top we'd have to be averaging at 1000 votes a day which is admittedly a long shot, but to hit 100 it looks more like just 35~ a day which is completely do-able. So what if those at the bottom of the 100 realise they're being beaten and strike back, hopefully they'll see whose beating them, and that's publicity.
Anyway. I'm at http://safe.topwebcomics.com/vote/13247/default.aspx and am happy to vote for folks while we keep discussing if this is a good idea or not.

I vote for Robot without plating too
We can make a list and click, at least our buttons will create the illusion of popularity.
Re: Voting sites
I don't really like voting sites, 'cause it's always the same few that get the spotlight.
Also, i don't really like voting buttons on my site: i get the unpleasant feeling of passing for someone desperate for attention.
I prefer webcomic directories that allow you find new gems. Inkoutbreak is doing a pretty good job on that front. I've added a dozen comics i never heard of before to my read list, thanks to it. I kina liked OnlineComics.net, back in the days, for the same reason... too bad it's dead now.

Re: Voting sites
Voting sites always sucked, yeah, there were always a few hugging the spotlight and they were always arbitrarily chosen. You'd never find those actually really popular comics on top, but rather some b-listers. I still got a lot of hits from those sites when they were working.
This is a good time to find some of those abandoned sites where noone votes anymore and try to use oportunity to crank up your ratings, hoping that noone else bothers to vote.

It's not that bad... until you have too many buttons, facebook, twitter, t-shirts and a description of all 20 genius creators, like some comic that appeared in Comic Pitching not long ago.Jops wrote:Also, i don't really like voting buttons on my site: i get the unpleasant feeling of passing for someone desperate for attention.

Or the "DONATE TO ME DONATE MONEY GIVE ME YOUR MONEY PLEASE LOOK SEE I'M DOING A COMIC SO WON'T YOU GIVE ME MONEY" and the person updates like three times a year.Mastermind wrote:It's not that bad... until you have too many buttons, facebook, twitter, t-shirts and a description of all 20 genius creators, like some comic that appeared in Comic Pitching not long ago.Jops wrote:Also, i don't really like voting buttons on my site: i get the unpleasant feeling of passing for someone desperate for attention.

Re: Voting sites
It was this. I liked the contrast between the illusion they were desperate to make and the actual quality of the comic.
Come on, rich people, I know you're out there, reading unpopular webcomics!
because nobody's donating!VeryCuddlyCornpone wrote:and the person updates like three times a year.

And now I've seen facebook and twitter buttons on a site that looks like it's from 1995.

Re: Voting sites
currently I'm #577 on the webcomic list, which is funny cause I never submitted anything there. nor have I done anything with it after I figured out it was there. not even adding the button to my page. surprisingly I get a fair bit of traffic from their site too. I feel like I should do something about it but whatever.
