Carreer Talk - Past/Present/Future
Present:
Right now I just want to work on Moon Crest 24, and go to as many Artist Alleys as I can to sell copies and prints.
Future:
After Moon Crest 24, I'd like to write a sequel to it and a prequel. If there's nothing else to add to the series, I want to turn a certain book into a comic book. After that, I'll find someone who needs an artist and work with them on their comic book.

Re: Carreer Talk - Past/Present/Future
1. Finish Little White Knight
2. Start some funny superhero comic that I've been writing
3. Have also a lot of other "projects" but at the rate my interests change, I don't know which one I'll feel like doing.

Re: Carreer Talk - Past/Present/Future
Are we talking about our comic careers or our actual careers?
Comic:
Past - Just finished my first eBook
Present - Trying to figure out how to market the eBook. [/pimp-pimp-shill-shill-tell-your-friends]
Future - Do 2nd ebook
Actual Career:
Past - Graphic Design for a theatre
Present - Semi employed for a Medical Food Company
Future - Hopefully become self sufficient on a combination of freelance work and selling eBooks. More likely (though only marginally in this economy
), get a full time job doing Graphic Design for someplace.

Re: Carreer Talk - Past/Present/Future
-Do tomorrows comic
-Do comics for the whole week
-Make buffer
-Finish reviewing Dutch's comic
-Increase internet presence of comic
eventual future:
-achieve a daily readership of more than ten people
-complete Loud Era ideally within next decade
-be the kind of creator that when people talk about underrated comics, someone says "Oh yeah, there was this one comic I read, it all took place back in like the twenties or something, it was kinda cool. I'll see if I can find it and send you a link." *
-get an actual job in my career path but maintain drawing as a hobby.
*that's right, I don't give a shit if people don't even remember the NAME of my comic. I just want to be a lingering little babydoll waiting in the cobwebs of a reader's memory, recalled years later as they discuss an only very tangentially related topic.

Re: Carreer Talk - Past/Present/Future
Huh, "career" is probably the last word I would use to describe anything webcomic-related. I do realize there are a few people who actually make a living off it, but this is so rare that it seems more a matter of extreme luck to me, rather than something you can plan.
Anyways...
Past: Uhh yeah, I sometimes used to draw comics, updated very irregularly and abandoned after a short time. I believe my past CG jam contributions actually outnumber the amount of actual webcomic updates I've ever done.
Present: I have 2 webcomic projects in the pipeline working with writers. I can't say more about it at this stage, but currently trying to get sketches and character designs / styles developed and finding the right technique (inking- and colouringwise). Hope to start drawing actual comic strips within the next two weeks!
I'm also trying to enrol for part time university study starting September this year and currently getting the paperwork done.
Future: Hope to manage doing regular updates for the above two projects and earn a little bit of money through ads.
On the uni side, hope to finish my degree (not that easy as I'll be working full-time throughout my studies) and get a job within my chosen field within the next 3-4 years, or alternately do more freelance work and manage to break into the childrens book illustrations industry. Ah, dreams...

Re: Carreer Talk - Past/Present/Future
Current: Finish Nailbat: Final Journey and return to the main AntiBunny storyline. Continue to post the randomness my brain spits out into Scribook. Run the con circuit.
Near future: Launch third comic. It's color, superhero themed, serious tone, and hopefully has a wider audience appeal. Get booths at bigger cons.
Further down the line: I have an idea on the backburner involving giant robots. Be a guest at some cons.
Long Term: Get picked up by a publisher, or be successful enough to publish independently.
Very long term: My brain in a robot body.
Ultra long term: Do something about that annoying heat death of the universe because I STILL have stuff to draw.
Even Longer Term: Playing Megaman Legends 3.

Re: Carreer Talk - Past/Present/Future
Yeah. I think that if you want a comic career, going to traditional publisheds is still a more viable career prospect than pimping your webcomics around and hoping that a million or few people get caught.Mo wrote:Huh, "career" is probably the last word I would use to describe anything webcomic-related. Re: Carreer Talk - Past/Present/Future
Being part of a group that started publishing not-for-profit Danish comic books a year ago (and working on our fifth 70-ish page anthology) has reignited my interest in making comics. Currently, I am picking up my oooold Keenspace (yes, that old) comic that went on hiatus seven years ago, and work on it for two hours a day. Perhaps this year, It'll actually go somewhere.
Simultaneously, I am working on the last course for my engineer's diploma, and once I have that, I have no idea where in the world I am going to live. Anyone heard of a vacant position as product developer in the health care business?
Comic-wise, I'll keep working on short stories in my spare time, but I don't think I'll ever try to make anything for profit. My next experiment will be writing my first script for another to draw, and draw my first comic from another's script. That will be a learning experience.

Re: Carreer Talk - Past/Present/Future
Past: Fundraiser for my university, Platoon Leader then Executive Officer for 66th Trans Company
Present: S-3 Plans and Exercises Officer for 39th Trans BN
Future: Ideally I'd like to be selected for this Aide-de-Camp position for the incoming 21st TSC commanding general, otherwise I'll be riding out my tour in my current job. Then it's on to my Captains Career Course, and then hopefully on to Ft. Lewis and either an S-4 or S-3 job followed by Company command. Hopefully of a Forward Support Company, or some other line unit.
Super future: After Lewis I'd like to go back to school for my Master's in a logistical field, followed by my going to the Logistics ILE and then pinning Major. After that I'd like to be selected for Brigade S-3, followed by BN XO. After that it should be on to the War College and Lieutenant Colonel. Then I want to work at one of the major commands like SDDC, TRANSCOM, or any theater combatant command before being selected for Battalion Command. I almost feel an obligation to try for the 39th Trans BN because so many of the officers who've commanded it have been PLs in 66TC just like me. After that, I'm not too picky because I should only be about 3 or 4 years shy of retirement.
Comic wise, I am done. Period.

Re: Carreer Talk - Past/Present/Future
Comic wise
Past - Made "Heroes of Mitt'n Magic" in sixth-form college (aged 17-18ish), gave up at uni
- Returned to comicing to draw RTP, finished chapter 1
Present - Having a break from publishing while things are getting me down at work and I'm building a buffer for chapter 2
Future - Hopefully increase RTP updates to a decent frequency, eventually finish the story several books down the line
- Begin work on a remake of HOMM, possibly with a different name based on the art style, finally get to make all the storylines I already had planned when I ditched the restart that never was (because I had my first pages (essentially) stolen and I didn't have the heart to redo them)
Real life
Past - Went to uni to study ecology because I wasn't sure what to do. Failed.
Present - Working as a Auxillary Nurse/Healthcare Assistant (whatever you want to call us) having found something that I actually feel called to do and enjoy when I'm not being driven out of my mind by the patients.
Future - Hopefully going to do my training (when I can get on a course) to be a registered Staff Nurse.

I'll try to get a regular update schedule again. My life got more interesting the last few years and I'm busy living it. Sort of. All grist for the mill, really.

Comicdom...
Present: Carry on putting three strips out a week for School Spirit.
Future: Carry on putting three strips out a week for School Spirit, and push on towards... let's aim at 1500 for now and not get TOO far ahead of ourselves.
Real career-wise (as in what is paying for me to live under this roof)
Present: Primary school teaching.
Future: Primary school teaching more, but maybe have them listen to me.
