Bookwyrms

ART - Very nice. It seems like a smoother RPGWorld. It is very clean and the black-and-white actually adds to the mood.

STORY - Interesting. Its more serious than humorous I guess, and it works. Very nice, will have to keep reading

OVERALL - Very nice. You did a good job and added a fan.

Dunn Boyz

first impression...
I like that style! Ok, the shading is nice and colouring compliments the style well. There is good camera angle changing so you can get a "feel" for the whole scene portrayed.

The "frames" being rather random shapes is a nice touch and very individual, however at some points I think there is a bit too much space (i'm guilty of that too...) but still a welcome style!

And I haven't browsed ALL your archives but from what I've seen the punchlines are easy to understand and very effective! Very cool indeed...

I did call it, then deleted the called line when I posted the review.

Okay then

Code Has Been Called

Code Has Been Reviewed

Drawing: The characters are drawn reasonably well, though could use improvement. The drawn bckgrounds could use a lot of improvement. The photo backgrounds are an excellent idea and look pretty good.

Story: Although some parts I don't get, the parts that's parodying several generic anime themes (And some specific ones) is quite funny. Right now though, there's only a couple dozen panels up, so the long term story is going to be hard to evaluate. I do like the continuity though.

Rating: **

Side note: The link to the Cast page from the main page needs to be corrected.
Another side note: Very nice title graphic.

I believe it wasn't the front page, it might have been one of the archived pages.

Right off the bat, let me just say this: the background you have with those two-toned nectarines (or oranges, maybe?) in it makes the text really hard to read. With that being said, let the review begin!

Review of Taiwanimation/Stupid Melon Dumb Egg

Concept: A manga strip set in Taiwan (in delicious defiance of the half-baked One China Policy) laced with political satire. I love it. I don't read manga, and I typically despise most forms of manga, anime, etc. but this is a refreshing exception that doesn't follow the stereotypes. It's like the Taiwanese equivalent of Non Sequitur or Doonesebury...Politics truly is the universal language.

Characters: A scientist and a local government official. It's not a combination that you see very often. But it works. I mean, there have been worse combinations. Remember Turner & Hooch, that crappy movie with Tom Hanks and the big slobbering dog? I try to forget it every day...

Story/Writing: The stories are good, but many of them are too short. They leave you with this sort of, "...oh, it's over" feeling. But the writing is very good. There's a joke every day; and you manage your delivery very well with a two-frame format (which I find very a difficult format for joke-telling). And I imagine those strips you write in Chinese (I assume it's Chinese) are even better untranslated.

Format: Like I mentioned earlier, the two-frame format is a difficult one to tackle if you're doing a gag strip. But you handle it very well. Sometimes, the dialogue is hard to read, but that's more of a scanner problem.

Artwork: A good style that's vaguely cartoony. I don't read manga, so I can't effectively compare it with anything else from that genre; but it's good.

All-in-all, a good strip. Keep up the good work!

EDIT: ...Does everyone say "Keep up the good work"?

"keep up the good work"... its like in America, the "have a nice day" they might actually mean it if you're lucky, but its being polite really... (but when i say is, I MEAN it) p.s. sidwood, I thought you were gonna put that review in the "Dibs Dibs" post...

I think that is the idea about the "call it first idea"

or not...

ok sidwood has called Taiwan... so I'm going to do you mr.sidwood... (funny how we end up in the same topic forums, guess we be surfing the forums alot...)

first though, about my review by Taiwanimation, I have found no problem with the cast cast link... maybe something was screwing around with Keenspace

and now for our feature presentation
SIDWOOD

one word: consistent

from the very beginning the Sidwood style has changed only very slighty, and for the better! updated on a nice schedual and hardly misses a date (unless he's learning the bassoon).

and that random comic "organized chaos" is seriously messed up! but funny in a "pentasmal" kinda a way!

keep up the good work

The two-frame format is a carryover from when I started with the vertical layout, and was dictated by the size of the paper. When is changed to horizontal, I was used to the 2-frame so I continued it.

New Traditionalists

Post by Melancholy Chinese »

I don't give good critiques but what the hell. Let's get it on.

New Traditionalists
Gag thrice weekly with a lot of pent-up anger and cynicism, and just plain weirdness all around. Pretty funny writeups too, so while it might not be the next Penny Arcade, it's a good read. I'd check it out just to see what weird crap comes out next. Stuff like #17 Wargames, hah! that's a riot.

Technically not much to say, I mean you are photoshopping most of the strips. Maybe try anti-aliasing. Your drawn characters could use a little more polishing around the edges (inking?), but it's your style - stick with what works. Nothing to complain about with the format either. Good stuff.
