For whatever reason I was never able to fall in love with that one. Might revisit it with older ears, maybe it'll click.

Re: Get your freak on 2014
It is, honestly, an album where all songs are in similar mood and tempo. They're all good, except it may be off-putting that they're all good in the same way. I liked, though, that it was the first time Beck wasn't even remotely tongue-in-cheek, it was the first time his lyrics weren't nonsensical, and it turned out that he was a good lyricist even when he was writing about something.
Guero didn't sit well with me, though. It had some great songs, but overall it felt like Odelay 2.0 and that was disappointing from a musician whose every album had a different angle. Which may be why I like Modern Guilt, again.

Yeah, since Sea Change it seems like he's been chasing That Odelay Feeling. I do like the uneasiness and paranoia of Modern Guilt, it's a pretty great statement on American society in this still young century. I just don't ever feel like listening to it.
The other day the end part of Golden Age jumped in my head out of nowhere and I spent a day or two trying to place it. Maybe it's a sign.

Yeah I like Modern Guilt partly because I expected he's keep doing Odelay, which he's most known for... Guero has some great songs, but mostly they were very straightforward, and some (like E-Pro) were just plain unmemorable... But then, Beck is too young to become Sting.
I don't know what to do with Song Reader. I guess I should wait get some tribute album of it.

Yeah, I didn't give it a second thought. I don't read music and I don't care about random wahoos on youTube singing other people's songs. Nice idea, but time for a recording I think.

It would be interesting to contemplate, though, exactly how much of his strengths carry strictly through songwriting.

Now listening!
Haven't made any decisions on it yet, my brain hasn't been operating since about 2:30 this afternoon.

Kinda like the new song. Been a wile since I've paid attention to a Josh Homme project, but me and the Suburban Letdown were jamming to Songs For the Deaf in the fall and goddamn that thing still kills.

Well you've got me interested.
Went to all three days of Pitchfork Fest like some kind of idiot. Savages and Chairlift were great.

You have to give Yoko Ono credit, she is 80 years old and wearing Daisy Dukes in her music video.

Saw these guys at some hole in the wall in Pittsburgh. Their live stuff was great (even for a short set.)

Re: Get your freak on 2014
Kudos to Atoms for Peace. My list would include a lot of duplicates. I'd throw in "Settle" by Disclosure and "Wheelhouse" by Brad Paisley. (I'm a little bit country...)
