Fuuuuuuck. So, it's that time of year again here in Europe, where it's no longer snowing every day and the sun is beginning to remind you that it DOES in fact exist. Ergo, it's training season. So, starting Monday next week, I've got a two week training exercise in Grafenwoehr, Germany with my Battalion. Today, while on quarters (sent home because I'm sick), I get the call from my boss that I've been selected for a training exercise at Hohenfehls that will last an entire month. Best part? I have to go to it after finishing that first week in Graf. NO BREAK! I miss out on TWO four day weekends because of it, and come back literally a week before Passover.
Upshot is that there's no way in hell they'll be tasking me for Austere Challenge again, and I get to skip out on my Courtesy Patrol. Though that last part isn't that much of an upside. I'd rather do CP and have my four day. Additional downside is that if Air Assault is going to be offered here in Germany (unlikely due to budget constraints) then I'm gonna be ASSED OUT.
I tell you what, come April/May/June I'm taking SO MANY PASSES. And I'm TRAVELING.

I'm a little irritated because it's warm out and the snow is melting. I've only used my ski pass maybe eight times this year.

Found out yesterday I have another kidney stone, almost exactly a year after the first one. Since the pain was abated rather easily, I was hoping it'd be a small or fast-moving one.
Spent most of today either crying in agony, throwing up, or at hte ER. Sometimes all three at once. Now I hope I can finally sleep.

Damn, Tero - that sucks! Sorry to hear it! I've heard some pretty bad stories about those kidney stones. I'll take people's word about how bad they are. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Thanks, they are indeed super lame. I couldn't even take medicine today because anything I tried to put down my throat just came right back up 15 minutes later, including pills, stomach medicine, and even water.peterabnny wrote:Damn, Tero - that sucks! Thankfully, I am a little better now. I was finally able to get some medicine down without throwing up, and it's dulled the pain enough that I was able to eat a little.

Oh crap
please get better Terotrous!!
I keep getting calls from a restricted number. It called once yesterday, once this morning, and once just a few minutes ago. I don't pick up because I don't see why I should be picking up a call from a restricted number. Actually, I don't know if it was the same number that called me this morning since I only got a voicemail for that and no missed call, but the voicemail was just a few seconds of silence and when I pressed the button to get more information, the phone number was not disclosed. I'm a little concerned, but I don't want to freak out in case it's just some weird wrong number thing or something. I don't know what to make of it.

Tero, get better real fast and I hope that it passes as painlessly as possible.
Cornpone, sounds like it's an automated number. If they keep calling, answer and see who it is so you can tell them to not call anymore.

Michelle kept getting calls like that last summer. When she finally picked up, it turned out to be a woman who's husband was cheating on her. The wife had looked up his call history, and found Michelle's number in there a lot. Turns out, Michelle's number used to belong to a (male) friend of the guy (Michelle had gotten calls for him before). It took a while, though, to convince the woman Michelle wasn't her husband's mistress.VeryCuddlyCornpone wrote:I keep getting calls from a restricted number. UM UM UM. That automatically beats any wrong number story I have. I have had this one girl who texts me about twice a year thinking I'm "Jess" or "Jessie," but I think I eventually convinced her that I wasn't somehow. She thought I was joking about not being Jess... I don't know why she really believed that, she was really persistent about it. Other people called for Jess occasionally asking about "the stuff" and "the party," but those mostly stopped.MariaAndMichelle wrote:Michelle kept getting calls like that last summer. The last time it called while I was typing the earlier message, it did end up leaving a voicemail. IT WAS A FREAKING ADVERTISEMENT! Like a recorded one! What the hell? I am going to continue to not pick up and hopefully this will cease happening.
But that story trumps all.

=_= Doing an extra day at work so that that project can be made of time is exhausting... especially after doing extra work hours this week...
I need a rest.

Can't you get your operator to block that number?VeryCuddlyCornpone wrote: The last time it called while I was typing the earlier message, it did end up leaving a voicemail. I was getting empty messages from an unknown number last year, about ten messages in a row. It went on for a few days, then it stopped just as I was about to go to my operator, either to get it blocked or identified if possible. Then a few weeks later it happened again, then stopped a few days later, again before I got myself to get to operator.
My first theory is always that it's some automate, botched up advertisement or something, then somebody else plants an idea into my head that someone might be stalking me, which I never really believe but it then exists at the back of my mind and keeps bothering me, specially when those messages start arriving every couple of minutes at midnight when I'm alone at home. In any case, automate or stalker, I'd try to get that number blocked, cause I want it to stop annoying me.

Well, it worked out on its own I guess, because after I listened to that one voicemail it hasn't called back since, so hopefully I am in the clear.McDuffies wrote:Can't you get your operator to block that number?VeryCuddlyCornpone wrote: The last time it called while I was typing the earlier message, it did end up leaving a voicemail. Re: Livejournal Thread 4: Can't kill what's already dead ins
I appreciate everyone's words of support - unfortunately, things have not really gotten any better. I still have not passed the stone, I've basically spent the previous week sitting in a reclining chair trying to remain perfectly still drink as many fluids as possible. I've also had to take strong painkillers every 4 hours, which I can already tell I am becoming addicted to. I've barely been able to eat any solid food and I've lost about 7 pounds since this started.
On Friday they sent me out for an ultrasound, and I got the results back today. It contained pretty much the worst news possible, that the stone is extremely large (8mm) and is unlikely to pass through normal means. It has not progressed far through the urinal tract, and with its large size it is likely to cause permanent scarring which would make passing any future stones more difficult. My doctor has decided to refer me to a specialist who will determine whether or not I need surgery, but since the pain is reasonably controlled by painkillers he does not believe this case qualifies as "urgent" and thus I should get my appointment in about 1-2 months. In the meantime he wrote me a prescription for a lot more pills and told me to keep doing what I've been doing.
Obviously, I cannot afford to wait that long, so tonight I'm going to go back to the ER in the hopes of finding someone who will actually do something.

Re: Livejournal Thread 4: Can't kill what's already dead ins
Yikes, Tero. That's awful. I passed a stone about six months ago. It scared the hell outta me, because at first, it felt exactly like the symptoms that went with the perforated colon that almost killed me a year ago. It was a small stone for me, but it was some wicked pain. I couldn't imagine having to pass something so large. I hope very much that something gets done for you sooner, rather than later, and that the surgery, if you do indeed have it, is not terribly invasive. I also hope that this is the last time something like this happens to you.
