Re: It's a small world, and it gets me every time
facebook is a plague of finding people from the past. I get friend requests from people I haven't seen for a decade, and generally forgot they even existed. its not so much cool as a bit freaky. specially concidering that I don't use my real last name on facebook and that I don't really thing I look like i did fifteen years ago. better style, more fit and more metal.

Re: It's a small world, and it gets me every time
They prolly find you through another friend, so there's no much mistake about who you are.
I do think that Facebook is tailored for creepy, stalker-type people. What with albums and tags, you can barely even control which fotographs or informations about you are placed on internet. And Facebook's system gathers all that stuff for any creepy stalker to just get it and get on the job.
Though my worst problem is that now I have a few sections overlaping - people I know from interner, high school friends, old grade school friends whom I don't care about anymore, colleagues, cousins... I'd rather keep all those categories separated, but it's difficult.

some of mine over overlap but thats okay! Its mainly strange when flashbacks who have no friends come to me and ask me friend them. and I can see the present of stalking if one is not careful. but most social network sites are like that. the big issue is that Facebook asks for your real name so employers can see all those weird party fotos and weird quizes that are all the rage.

Re: It's a small world, and it gets me every time
morbid post ahead
I was thinking, when will people get rid of their Facebooks? I mean, probably until the next wave of popular networking site overtakes it, but the general idea- when will people remove themselves? Will you get to an age where you decide "Enough people interacting with me in this fashion, I'm peacing out" ?
The reason I was wondering this is because I was thinking what about ~70 years from now, when people who currently have Facebooks and such are dying off, and there's just all these Facebook profiles sitting there never to update again? It's one thing if you get the occasional kid that dies, usually what I've seen is it turns either by the family or by people posting on the wall, into a memorial for the person. But sometime in the future...
and this is what I think of before I go to bed at night.

That's because I removed a leg from each of them to create an additional spider to thank you for your time.

people will just have to put into their wills their login, their password, and a final message to be put in their status.VeryCuddlyCornpone wrote:morbid post ahead

I lost interest in facebook years ago but people periodically friend me that I have no interest in communicating with, or worse, people i know suggest friends to me that I have no interest in communicating with, i ignore that, and then eventually that same person friends me and I have to go through the ignoring process again. never has ignoring people been such hard work.

Facebook isn't really for people like us, Lego . . . y'know, people who hate everyone else on the planet.

Re: It's a small world, and it gets me every time
Facebook... meh... I'd rather not go on that for too long... I mean, yes, finding old friends may be fun for some, but to receive a friend request from some idiot who used to push me down a hill in high school because he wasn't able to have a social network after his studies is not my problem.

I made sure to do that. My mom has on her computer a text file filled with my passwords, logins, and final messages to consolidate the online portions of my life, including banking, message boards, emails, etc. It's a "do not open except in the event of my death" file. When I get back to Germany, I'll make sure to update it appropriately and include it on a CD with my will.Dr Legostar wrote: people will just have to put into their wills their login, their password, and a final message to be put in their status.

I will come back as a ghost a year after my death to add the message "rumours of my death have been greatly exaggerated" to every online portfolio I have.
And then I'll move on to wherever.
