What kind of comics are you mainly into?

For discussions, announcements, non-technical questions and anything else comics-related or otherwise that doesn't fit in any of the other categories.

I loved Calvin and Hobbes. I also read School Spirit and Ugly Girl. I go more for lighthearted comics then big storyline drama.

The kind I like

Believe it or not, I tend to like black&white comics over color comics. I feel like it gives my imagination more room to move. Also black&white comics tend to be a singal person's project, and the freedom of not having anyone else's hands in their work seem to make it better.

It doesn't really matter if it's drawn well. Sometimes a crappy drawing can help a bizar idea look just the way it should (within reason of course).

Also I like comics on the extreme end of slapstick, with blood splatters and decapitation, which is odd because I hate horror movies.
Come see my webcomic!!

i'll read all sorts but in the end top of my list is a story comic which doesnt necessarily have to be comedy, but needs a good sense of humour about itself. bout the same as a good superhero movie.

Ones with good plot, does not take itself too seriously, and frequently updated or I get bored with it.

I haven't been reading a lot of comics... specially on the web.. I'm such a slacker.

but truely I'll read anything that seems interesting. it doesn't matter the genre. just give me an off the cuff story, or something that makes me laugh and I'll be your captive reader til I forget.

I have to agree, character-driven stories are my favorites. Craig Thompson is my hero, and "Blankets" is my absolute favorite graphic novel. I also like Graham Annable, of the "Grickle" books, I love Mike Mignola's "Hellboy" and "B.P.R.D.," and anything by Art Spiegelman. I've also enjoyed "Lone Wolf and Cub," "Preacher," "Ghost World," "La Perdida," "Tricked," "Blood Song," "Fray," the list goes on and on. I pretty much devour graphic novels. Couple strong characters with a strange, thought-provoking storyline, and I'm even happier.

My taste in webcomics also reflects this; my long-time favorites being 8:1, Anywhere But Here, and Head Doctor Productions.

I find that I am open to outside influence, so I'll latch onto comics that I feel are cool, but it's hard to describe how! I'm a 'bit of everything' person! It's easier to say what I don't like.

I think maybe those of us talking about character driven comics may have completely different thoughts on this topic, actually. Most of the comics listed up there claiming to be character driven seem to also have strong plots or action and what not. I'm more of the style where the comic is character driven, but the story is meandering and there is no particular goal in sight at the end.

I see character driven as a strip where you can see the characters developing and growing as time passes, yet the story is secondary, if indeed there really is one. Some mentioned above are like this, but most seem to have their heavy plots primary and the character driven side of things secondary.

This is why I love Footrot Flats. No real story to talk about, just a New Zealand farm with real animals and people, but a lot of the humour comes from real life things seen through the actions of characters you can really get to know and understand.

My thoughts, anyway.

Cheers.

I tend to prefer sci-fi/fantasy stuff, but I read some slice-of-life stuff too. Though honestly, the ones I do usually have a few fantasy or sci-fi aspects...

I like comics that have a good storyline, even if it's sort of episodic in nature. Having some good jokes and humor mixed in doesn't hurt either.
