hrrms.... no its true not everyone can write, course in comics, its not so much about the skill of a writer in a grammical sense, its how well one can convey a plotline with images more so than with words.
one misconception about comics, is that a good fiction writer will do a great comic. this is not accurate. I feel... and maybe I'm alone here, but one needs a good visual mind to be able to properly convey the proper things into a visual scene. a plot writer, would be helpful to some but a scripter is a whole diffrent ball of wax.
Personally I suck at comic writing, and I am a very visual person. And I have won quite a few awards, with my fiction writing. However my plot writing leaves a lot to be desired. Though with that said (my art isn't that great either) I don't think I'd want to do a free fun comic for pleasure that was not my brain child. its like playing music for me. For non monies, playing by myself is more fun, and I have more control even if I'm not greatest musician. however I do enjoy doing a sit in, the only reason for me to join a band is to play some shows.
Good luck on your search, but as its been very firmly mentioned, most of us already have our own projects we devote tons of time in.
