I'm actually the other way round; I find it quite difficult to make my characters seem attractive except when drawing manga-style bishie smut *flees the wrath of everyone who isn't a fangirl*. Though, this may be because the female lead is an alien with a triangular (and therefore naturally masculine) face and the male lead is a cat-boy with a very round, very wide head and - of course - too much facial hair ^_--mcDuffies wrote:I somehow find it more difficult to draw less-than-pretty people.
In fact, I'm practiced at drawing the default handsome, thin, 20-something protagonist, (WASP, hah) everything out of that line seems more difficult.
Aside from faces, though, I do find well-maintained, muscular male torsos and busty female torsos with skinny much easier; probably something to do with the shapes being much more clearly defined (and also because exaggeration is usually easier than accuracy).

Well, maybe that diet is finally working for her!Swikan wrote:*Just laughs maniacally..* Therein lies the inexplicably complimentary attributes of cuteness and gritty reality. *brain tries to resolve the oppositeness and short-circuits... which is another reason why parenthood is harmful to the brain*Nanda wrote:Bragging? Getting back to character evolution, It was recently pointed out to me that I have been drawing my main character, Zelda, a bit thinner than usual. (Zelda is a plus-sized character based on myself.) I noted today that it is probably wishful thinking on my part to be thinner, but I am wondering if it is not also a desire to draw more beautifully. I am looking at my preliminary sketches of some of my strips and I start off drawing her as round as she is supposed to be, but I "thin her up" as I go to final. Funny how this thread has made me "aware" of the evolution as it it happening.

Yeah, I also find it hard to draw people who are a bit...larger.
I don't think it's because it's because it's because of any deep-seeded psychoses, however. It's just that adding another layer of fat on top of the character's frame is a bit harder than drawing the musculature and then smoothing the lines a little bit.

Bigger characters are more fun to draw.

It may sound kinda mean and uh, wrong, but the only overweight person in my comic so far has died horribly.
I think I just like LOOKING at the muskled characters...hence my love for Tales of Pylea^^.

The most impressive thing of all art-wise is being able to draw "ugly" people as well as good-looking ones. That is, being able to draw them in a good way. Many otherwise good artists fall short in that regard.
Dores in WBK is supposed to be a little heavier than the rest, and she is, but I think she was supposed to be more so than she is now. It's hard to draw, really hard...

If I was savvy enough, it would've done that, been a much smaller filesize, and been an actual movie file with the music already embedded.Swikan wrote:JimNorth: I loved that animation! That was very clever! *think it should be each panel morphing into the next*
But thanks!
