This was the first forum I had ever joined so I didn't have a strong handle on forum etiquette. I had put an overinflated value on post count so the first posts were of few words "I agree", "yeah" and such. I was called out in a nice way and McDuffies and Crossfire let me know that this forum isn't about post whoring, it's about community, which was pretty cool. Shortly after the KeenTV jam started and I was hooked. I haven't posted a lot lately but I still come and check in on everyone. Still one of the best forums on the web imho.

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace? yeah, i didn't know what the hell to do, so i milled around the wiki beofre going to the forum.
Did you remember having any problems? yeah, i kept thinking; whats an FTP client?!
How did you first find CG/Keenspace? off of other web comics- i read so many, that i don't remember which one...
Who were your idols? sparrow- she helped alot! and churasaa, who has almost completely coded my website.
Did you have any friends who helped you? i didn't know ANYBODY on CG, the only help i had before hand was tom fitchbach (2kinds.com) who suggested, to go with the wacom tablet, not the tablet PC, my origanal idea.
How did your comic do at first? sucky
i am ashamed at the art work, so i am going to edit it and do a good job- every 4 months or so. speaking of- the front page will/should be changed.

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
I just remember being happy Keenspace was taking new accounts again, since I had started my comic on the space provided by my ISP, and was getting sick of manually updating every day! That was in July 2003 - I think I joined the forum some time after that.
Did you remember having any problems?
Not really!
How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
Through Keenspot, I think.
Who were your idols?
I don't really remember having webcomic idols - I didn't get into webcomics much until I started my own.
Did you have any friends who helped you?
Not that I can recall! I pretty much set my site up on my own after reading about the site tags, and maybe a few helpful posts on the help forum. (Thanks to anyone still here who might have posted any of those!)
How did your comic do at first?
Read mostly by friends and family, and readership gradually grew from there as I found ways to promote (voting lists, comic directories, etc.) - still growing (still gradually).
Anything else?
Well, my comics aren't hosted here anymore - but I'm still here anyway!

I was nobody except Nanda's little sister. My first friends were Legostar and probably Vorticus. I remember that I didn't understand half the inside jokes so even though no one ever purposely excluded me, I never really felt included either.
But now I can sa hi to people in chats without wondering if they're just rolling their eyes behind the monitor wondering "Who is this person again?"

Maybe I should answer this too... >.> Then I'll make fun of it after 365 days of membership! YEAH!
Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
Uh, yes?
Did you remember having any problems?
Lots of confusion, keeping my cool with the whole updating the comic thing. Lots of stupid coding mistakes. Intimidating webcomic writers.
How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
My cousin's webcomic had a link to a webcomic ranking site, which had a link to "May I Help You" which was a random comic I stumbled on, which happens to be right here in CG.
Who <strike>were</strike> are your idols?
Uhh... *points to you*
Did you have any friends who helped you?
Forum people answered my noobish questions, so do they count? Yes.
How <strike>did</strike> does your comic do <strike>at first</strike>?
Let me just say that I have to thank my banner.
Anything else?
Why am I asking myself this? I DEFY THIS QUESTION.

Heheh, you were gonna make sprite comic.Vorticus wrote:My first post....yeah. Thankfully I adjusted well and didn't run off permanently like I could have. Hey Steve, haven't seen you around in a few.
That's the first one I've been compared to moose. You are, IMO, the ComicGenesis equivalent of the moose: a creature that can be both majestic and ridiculous at the same time. Despite being the most abused poster on CG I suspect you're one of the most highly respected, as well.

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
Yes to the comic. I just sort of gradually drifted into the forums, so I can't recall an exact date.
Did you remember having any problems?
Ohhhh, yeah.
I uploaded my first comic as a .bmp, which completely crashed my site, and I couldn't figure out what was wrong. IIRC, it was RedWolf that sorted me out and explained the problem, and I felt very silly.
Then, three weeks after my comic started, one of the periodic (at the time) Keenspace errors happened and my site froze up for a week and a half, losing all four of my readers.
Good times.
How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
I was reading a few Keenspace comics at the time, and I was all, "Wow, free comic space. I should totally do that."
Who were your idols?
Oh, god, thinking back that far... Captain SNES and Adventurers! both spring to mind. They were both still on Keenspace at the time, too.
Did you have any friends who helped you?
Aside from helpful admins? Nope, not really.
How did your comic do at first?
Very gradual readership increases, followed by a nasty drop when the comic went online, then another gradual increase, then another big drop when my computer crashed, and then gradual increasing with a jump when someone linked to me the first time.

Do you remember your first day/s in CG/Keenspace?
CG for me. I was extremely impressed with the simplistic complexity of the system. It was obvious that the people who did the site and whatnot knew what they were doing (which always makes me break out spontaneously into applause
). I had my site up (a basic, horrible looking version) within a few hours. Didn't join the forums until much later when I had a problem.
Did you remember having any problems?
Something about images / navigation if I remember correctly. It got worked out quickly.
How did you first find CG/Keenspace?
A friend of mine had a Keenspace comic from way back when. I figured I'd check out the webcomic service she was using. Looks like I made a good choice.
Who were your idols?
I didn't know anyone here on the forums well enough to have any.
Did you have any friends who helped you?
I was all on my own.
How did your comic do at first?
Exponential growth is all I have to say. I mean, I went from only a couple hundred hits in a couple days to around 6k hits a month...and now I'm averaging 10k hits a month. Sooo...go figure.
Anything else?
I've re-worked my entire site about 5 times since joining. I hope to not do any more alterations any time soon.

I was an angsty rebellious teenager and I thought my zany doodles were the funniest and most original comics ever.

I'd seen a few of those things called "webcomics" and figured I'd start my own. A Google search later and I'm here.
>>Who were your idols?
Jhonen Vasquez, Chuck Palahniuk, and Trent Reznor. Still are, though I'm exposing myself to a wider variety of stuff. The tricky part right now is learning from and imitating others while trying to do something original and develop my own style.
As for this forum, I have really low self-esteem so I generally consider most people here to be my superiors.
>>Did you have any friends who helped you?
Everyone's been pretty nice and helpful. For specific shout-outs, I guess Sput for moral support, 834n for being really nice and awesome all the time, and Blackaby for liking my comic when I thought no one did.
>>How did your comic do at first?
Shitty.
>>Anything else?
No.
