Legendary, I hope that 7000 visits was total and not daily, 'cause otherwise... Damn. :o

How does one do link exchanges? I'd love to get in on that if it means raising my readership.

Generally, you just send someone an e-mail and beg them to link you in exchange for a link back. Slightly subtler ways of getting linkage - like silently linking someone and hoping for reciprocation, or sending them fanart, or even sending fan-mail - are preferred in most cases.

That's a real shame, because I have some real questions about hits and reader numbers. But I'll for sure never ask them now. :P

I think Merc was referring to posters who just compare pageviews and brag/moan without adding anything constructive to the conversation. If you actually have something relevant to discuss and aren't just looking to be snarky and pick a fight with an admin, I'm sure no one would mind if you brought it up.

If you can't understand the difference between these two posts:

"I get X pages, Y hits, and use Z KB a month, should I look into my own hosting?"

--and--

"I've got X pages and Y hits so far this month!"

--then I can't help you.

But whatever, keep misreading my posts and ignoring context.

Oh wait, I almost forgot the :P.

If you aren't on this list, you aren't making a dent, change the limit to see where you are on it. Red means going down, green means going up.
I made this specificly to beat wikipedia editors over the head with, but whatever, it gives everyone a relative standing, suffice it to say, if you are not on the top 50, it's a very steep slope to climb. This list runs similiar to page 1 and 2 of the TOP_PL section of the guide

More to the point. If you are a new comic, like, just started... in the last year, you have to get wangage from penny arcade before you hit the top, or you have to be "featured" on a heavily trafficed site.

Also, the stats are not 100% correct. It tends to collect garbage when a site is moves off CG or is deleted, the stats are left in the system for like a month.

I recommend Google Analytics for stats. I use it, and its really damn helpful with tracking multiple sites, and its completely and utterly invisible to the user (no button to deal with)
You know, i should work on this.

Doesn't really work that way with me: whenever I see one of these comparative lists my reaction is "this thing has got to be wrong, my comic can't be nearly that popular."

Either I've been underestimating my own readership or overestimating other people's.

Google Analytics is the bees knees. It doesn't interfere with your site at all (no little icon anywhere), it reports on every webpage within the site that you want and it even happily lets you watch over multiple sites all for free.

Gives you a bit too much information, mind, but once you find the bits you're actually interested in,* you can go straight to them.

"Grumpy the fat hamster" seems to be significantly less popular than I anticipated. :P

I was surprised I'm even in the top 1000.
It makes for a nice little ego boost.

Hey, RC is #188. That's cool... I figured I'd be in the low 400's.

Lookit Legostar at #7! :D

Kisai apparently overestimated our ego inflation.

You're very hard to read, and the 'Admin' tag under your name gives your crankiness a lethal quality. No smilie there -- you scare people, and you enjoy it, and I don't think that's a good thing.

But anyway. I do have a question about visitors.

Let's say I get an average of X unique visitors per day (I'll avoid using real numbers). But I only update twice a week. Seems to me that my true visitor number is X*(number of days in the month)/(number of updates per month), or about X*30/8, in my case -- almost a factor of 4.

So 'visitors' may not reflect your actual number of readers. *If* I understand things correctly. But I'm not sure I do.

Great assumption there.

I don't understand what is wrong with you people. It's not hard to understand, and stop acting like if you disagree with her that she's gonna drop a ban hammer on you. Look back and tell me how many times people have been banned for having a differing opinion then Merc. Just because she's an admin doesn't mean she has to sugarcoat every single thing she says.
