Don't let them butter you up with that "But you live inside of us, weeeeeeeh...", McDuffies. They know what they did.
Also, our new comic is now updating. NBD.

Some of the artwork from one of my comic pages got used in the commercial for the Boston Comic Con this year!
It's easy to miss because they go by so fast, but you can see it at about 13 seconds in.

Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?
Googling "backstage 1910s" got me some cute old porn.
edit: Also, I'm having a very pleasant back-and-forth discussion with a reader whose comic I really enjoy in the comment section of my comic. For one thing it's really inspiring me to kick things into gear, and it's also really fun to be able to talk with another creator about our characters as if they are real people we know/are related to X)

I used JQuery and some CSS to trick out the archives page to kinda be like a filing cabinet. The site might take a little bit longer to load since it has to pull code from Google, but I'm hoping that the extra wait time isn't noticeable.
Also, my copy of Derelict finally came in the mail, so I'll probably do a video review for it once I get around to reading it.

My supplies I ordered have arrived. There's like 13 pen ink refill cartridges in this thing. Holding them feels like I'm holding the sword of excalibur or something. Like I need to use my powers for good now.
Also nibs. MANY MANY NIBS. I WILL NEVER NEED TO BUY NIBS AGAIN.

This reminds me, I need to buy some more pens this week.VeryCuddlyCornpone wrote:My supplies I ordered have arrived. There's like 13 pen ink refill cartridges in this thing. Holding them feels like I'm holding the sword of excalibur or something. Like I need to use my powers for good now.

Earlier this evening I tried (as I do from time to time) inking with a brush pen, I just do not have the touch for it. I know, I know, practice, but I barely have time to draw as it is.
On topic, I just did the rough layout for the next four pages of my comic, which will end this little 10 page story...yay for small achievments

Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?
Honestly, I was surprised how quickly I adapted to using the brush style pen. I was really hesitant at first and shaky and tried to basically avoid using it but then I sort of got the hang of it. I'm not like great at it now, but the more I use it, the more I feel comfortable with it. I used to use felt-tip pen that was pretty sturdy, like you didn't really get a lot of line variation out of it for the most part, from chapters 1 through 3. It wasn't until chapter 4 that I took the plunge and started sparingly using the brush tip I use now, which has more, uh "articulation" I guess? and affords more line variation. At first I was using it very precisely and mechanically, the way I used the other one-width pens. Eventually I got over my fear of making a mistake with it and it seems to flow much more organically now. Effectively after only a year and a half or so of using it regularly, and within that time frame making so far 85 pages.RobboAKAscooby wrote: This reminds me, I need to buy some more pens this week.

But I know that loosening up of the arm/movement has been really difficult for you, so I can understand your frustration. Either way, good luck with your next four pages

My 3-page scene is now uploading day by day- this system (of finishing the scene before I upload any of it) is really working out nicely for me. It kind of sets its own deadline that I don't mind meeting, a deadline based on like, togetherness as opposed to a timestamp. Not sure if that makes any sense. Either way, here comes the big one. Next scene looks to clock in at about 13 pages. That is going to be a big challenge for me. I think I'm going to need to attack it in waves.
Talking with my new reader pal I mentioned upthread has done WONDERS for my motivation, though, so I'm going to try to get started today. I ought to at least get the outfits squared away. I already have everything thumbnailed but that sometimes changes when I actually start to commit it to Big Paper. So I think if anything I'll maybe panel out the first handful of pages on big paper, see if everything still works, and maybe AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH GUYS I HAVEN'T FELT THIS MOTIVATED IN A REALLY LONG TIME AND I'M SO AFRAID TO LOSE IT

No big loss, not much to read through yet.VeryCuddlyCornpone wrote:Either way, good luck with your next four pagesI need to catch up on your comic soon, I've been reading a page here or there but haven't properly given it a read-through yet.
As a reader I like it because I know I'm gonna get a full chunk of story rather than "here's a page I'll have another up...soon...ish"VeryCuddlyCornpone wrote:My 3-page scene is now uploading day by day- this system (of finishing the scene before I upload any of it) is really working out nicely for me. Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?
That's a big part of why I like it as well. I know how annoying it can be to follow a comic that takes ages to just get through a scene, where each is broken up by unpredictable days or weeks or even months of radio silence. It ruins the pacing which makes it really difficult to immerse yourself and enjoy the comic. Plus, with a comic like mine where the "payoffs" are usually pretty small/mundane, waiting ages between updates just for something mildly-to-moderately interesting to happen seems to punish the readers.RobboAKAscooby wrote: As a reader I like it because I know I'm gonna get a full chunk of story rather than "here's a page I'll have another up...soon...ish"

I've been touting batch uploads to long-form narrative webcomics for what feels like an eternity now. Glad to see that word's finally getting out.

Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?
I think it's just difficult for people to adjust to. For what it's worth, I don't upload them all in a batch, but I finish the scene so that I can then run daily updates until the scene runs out. It keeps the pacing from running out too fast or slowing to a crawl. I know for some people it's better to get everythign all online at once though.Bustertheclown wrote:I've been touting batch uploads to long-form narrative webcomics for what feels like an eternity now. This is what we are doing now. We're finding it's more... satisfying?... to update that way. Each story will come out as a whole story, and then there's no pressure to update until the next one is finished. We're fans.

Re: How are you doing, comic-wise?
My rate of completing pages is still 1 page per week, with the rare extra page every few weeks. I don't know if batch updates will work in my case, considering how slow I am as it is. Readers will go weeks without ever seeing an update and I don't know if they will hang around long enough for that.
