CG FCBD 2006 Info

Post by STrRedWolf »

It's that time again. It's time we start thinking about the first Comic Genesis Free Comic Book Day comic for 2006. I'll be heading this endevor.

The specs from the KeenSpace 2004 book are still vaild. I'll be moving those into the CGWiki.

Chris also says:
Just dug up the FAQ for the 2004 'SPACE book:
http://constancy.keenspace.com/keenspacebook_2004.html

The page specs there are still valid. 6.75" x 10.5" full bleed, 6.25"
x 10" trim size (active image area).
---
Same as 2004 (http://constancy.keenspace.com/keenspacebook_2004.html)
would work for just about everything. $25.75 for a half-page and
$51.50 for a full-page (via PayPal).

I'd like to see some tutorials again, though not neccesarily as many
as 2004's edition. Some short one-page interviews with notable
webcartoonists and comic book creators might be a nice touch, too, if
possible. (They wouldn't have to be limited to Keenspot creators.)

Basically, about 75% of the book should be a showcase for ComicGen
comics and 25% of it should be fun and informative stuff aimed at
aspiring comic creators. If it's just a webcomics showcase, it's very
hard to get comic book stores to order it.
Right now we need cover art. Chris hasn't gotten word from the distributor yet as to deadlines, but says it will be mid-to-late December for cover art and solicitations.

Also, one last thing. Will the owners of the SpaceBook Yahoo! Group please contact me? I am on the group itself.

Update 11/11/2005: A Genchan cover has been decided apon. This means you get to draw Genchan again! I'd like you to draw her to fit the comic page described above. Include the CG text (which I'll get up ASAP) and the text "Generations 2006". You may reuse the design you have for the front page Genchan -- it needs to be at least 300 dpi. I'd like to have the CG Atom logo in the same upper left corner as the DC/Marvel/Image/etc logos, designed like Joel has in his front page.

Post a scaled down version of your front and back covers here. THE DEADLINE IS <strike>NOV 25TH</strike> AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! VOTING WILL START WHEN WE GET ENOUGH GOOD COVERS!

Edit Nov 22nd: Please, everyone. This will be our first offically and internationally distributed comic under the Comic Genesis name. I'd like it to be the best out there, and we need to start now in order to get it done in time.

Of course, I do have my own idea:

The book title will be "Generations 2006" and will have a space parody -- almost a Star Trek/TNG parody (and I wish MrBob will do it). The front cover will have the view of the bridge from the perspective of the viewscreen. The crew would be:

Captian: myself (by seniority, unfortuantely, and as admin)
Commander: Kisai
Guidance Councelor: Mercury Hat
Science Officer: Mr. Bob
Navigator: Faub
Weapons Officer: War
Various background officers: Ping/Phalanx, McDuffies, YeahDuff, and the rest of the Wrangler staff.

Background cover will have as many artists who are participating as we can stand!

Chris has an idea for the cover concerning our mascot, GenChan:

I don't remember who drew it, but I remember seeing a very
eye-catching image of a ComicGen female mascot character that would
make for an excellent cover. I think something like that would work
better than a collage of many art pieces (that could be saved for a
back/flip cover).

Hmmm...I like the idea of using Genchan for the cover, as opposed to a bunch of popular Comicgeners...that could lead to a somewhat unfair situation whereby a comic maker pays their money to be in the book, but doesn't get to be on the cover because they're not one of the popular messageboard regulars.

On the title, I think we should either keep the theme from 2004 and call it FROM PIXELS TO PAPER 2006, or just call it COMIC GENESIS 2006. The latter would probably be the best way to go for simplicity's sake, IMHO. The easier it is for the average Joe to identify it as the Comic Genesis FCBD book from the title alone, the better.

A subtitle (like "Generations") could be used as well, of course.

Comic Genesis: Generations 2006 would be best. We can have the CG Logo on the left hand corner.

A variation of GenChan seems like a proper motive for the main page. After all, we have a lot of them, and very nice ones too.

cant plug that money towards it.

anyway, much as i LOVE the idea of redwolf choosing himself to be the leader and captain *cough* i think the genchan idea is far superior.

regardless, id probably try and do something for faubios thing instead. although ive missed that boat.

that said, i am an arrogant fucktard, i wouldnt join something like this unless there was some kind of quality control, same reason i wont have a newsbox on my site. and im not even very good!

having said THAT, i might have a pop at a genchan cover. for the fun of it.
Jaw droppingly large strawberry desserts.

Dude, you haven't missed any boats. Nobody's submitting anything. We don't have enough to make an issue 3 yet.

It looks like a GenChan Cover is a go. Glad I tossed my idea out there (as much as it was, and I was hoping to have the admins and wranglers on the front page. Oh well).

I've edited the first post here with further details, so go review it again. You get to draw Genchan again! Deadline's Nov 25th.

Kisai was on the last cover... I'm sure something can be worked out.

So was I. But we'll have to go for the back cover if possible.

Do we re-draw the logo or is there an eps/tiff/ai file floating around we can use?

Perhaps " between-worlds.com/!junk/comicgenesis.zip " , instead.
