Considering you already have a critique thread in TTT, I would say comicgen is the place you want to go. You want to know about running a site. Here you design your own HTML templates, maintain your site, etc. The only thing you don't have to do is make a new HTML for each comic you upload.

You don't have to use the keentags if you don't want to. The mandatory ad code can be copied from another comicgen site. You can do everything yourself. PHP and CGI aren't available, though. You'll need a different site if you want to play with those.

In light of Mad Tarnsmen's screenname I guess I should say "Tal!" Nice stuff. I agree with others that the colors could stand to be punched up, but otherwise very nice. I'm a big fan of fantasy art in general and your stuff has a nice old school feel to it compared to the more manga influenced stuff, which gets old after awhile. Can't wait to see more of your work!

Thanks, wishmaster, and to all the others who've complimented or critiqued. I've solved the coloring problem but unfortunately the only thing I've colored recently has been the adult stuff.

I sure as hell can't let that stuff lose here.

My webcomic is making it's debut soon......and I'm hoping that coloring demon will be dead and gone then.

As of now I'm trying to decide between comicgen or drunkduck. I ran an eye stalk over webcomicsnation and decided I'd see the reception on a free site first.

Might I suggest Gutterflycomix as an alternative as well? That's the site I'm going with, it looks like the benefits are:
* It's free
* Smaller (so you're more likely to be noticed amongst the Gutterflycomix people then comicgen or drunkduck, but there are less of them).
* Not as well known (so it doesn't have a reputation, among some circles, keenspace did have one (which AFAIK was part of the reason for the name change))
* Some (minimal for free accounts) opportunities for gutterflycomix to pimp your site.
* Extra's for semi-price (so if you do decide you want some of the upgrade features you don't have to move immediately to a pay site like WCN)
* No ads (which is the big reason for me )
* Access to gutterflycomix e-mail and MySQL database

Cons:
* Lower audience so less built-in cross-promotion possibilities
* Some language/content restrictions
* Don't get a subdomain
* Monthly bandwidth and usage restrictions
* No automatic native update scheduler

So depending what your needs are, this may or may not be a good alternative.

Also as far as I know, drunkduck encourages you using their server as a mirror, so you could go with both Comicgen AND Drunk Duck (can someone confirm this?)

From Gutterfly's FAQ:

The best way to clarify this is that we try to follow the criteria set out by the Motion Picture Association for a PG rating. We chose this because a large number of people are familiar with that type of rating system. Refer to http://www.mpaa.org for more information. According to the PG rating, moderate profanity and violence is ok, but frequent use of profanity or violence would not be acceptable.. Also with the PG rating, you can have sexual content, but not strong sexual content. The one area where we differ from the MPAA rating, is concerning nudity. PG allows certain brief nudity. We do not.

So if it can't be done in a PG rated movie, it can't be in your comic. If you are unsure if something you are putting in your comic would be acceptable or not, feel free to email us about it and we'll let you know.

I'm seriously sick of sites and publishers that do the R vs PG thing... but only mention it in fine print somewhere deep in their FAQ. Gets me excited over nothing.

Well, I generally prefer more visceral "fantasy" (hate hate hate that word for the genre). I'm more the sword and sorcery type (Conan, Elric, John Carter of Mars, Gor, etc.), but sword and sorcery is as unweildy as fantasy is generic and dandified. So when I hear someone is going to be doing a new "fantasy" strip with an R rating I get all tingly in my extremities.
