spiderspawn and tansplant comics?

Does anyone know anything about these sites? Mostly, are there any benefits to said sites? Do they have any Street Cred? Is there anything that makes them better or worse than Keenspace (comicgenesis)? Should I avoid their hosting as I would avoid a rabid bear with a chainsaw? The reason I ask, is because I've gotten personal emails asking me to join these two different sites. From a quick glance, they don't really look like they can offer me anything that comicgenesis doesn't already do for me.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to say no, but I just wanted your opinions. Also, this happen to anyone else? It is a little bit weird to be offered free hosting when you already have free hosting.

spiderspawn is essentially spiderforest, and i believe christwriter of 'Blue Skunk' recently joined it. Don't know about tansplant, though I have vaguely heard of transplantcomics.

What? No. I love keenspace. I'm just curious about these sites. Curious as to why someone would offer me free hosting when I already have free hosting.

Well, I looked into both comics... a google search for tansplant turned up nothing (maybe a link can help), but spiderspawn is basically similar to CG, but with a php update system. It's up to you, but I see no real benefits to moving to either site.

I moved to Spider Forest because I felt like it was the best move I could make at the moment. Call it a risk that's got a pretty good chance of paying off in my mind. I'm fairly happy with it. The perks aren't big, unless you count the reader-to-comic ratio (CG=4,000 comics, SF/SpiderSpawn=20-25, bored reader=1, Odds of him reaching your comic=X) but they're not bad either. I like the PHP system, as it has no queue (Autokeen is more flexible but it's also kept me up until three AM just to update the same page twice) and the neighborhood's pretty good. It's not Hollywood Blvd, 5th Ave. or Ocean Street, more like a smaller version of suburbia. It's also gonna stay pretty small, as they don't want more than 25 comics on the two networks combined.

Like I said, it was a risk I felt was reasonable enough, and I'm still riding it out. It's got pros and cons to it. But it's really not bad at all.

wow. christwriter. I am very happy with the new artistic shift. you seem to be getting better every day. I remember reviewing your comic a while back and it's good to see a webcomicer advancing at such a fast pace. Keep up the good work and good luck at your new digs.

I moved over to SpiderForest as well, and I am pretty happy with things so far...I'm still trying to get back up to speed with my PHP, but other than that everything is golden so far.

In response to Rade: that was me who sent you the invitation; that is, the invitation to apply to Transplant, not to be accepted. Sorry if that seemed to be what was going on.

I also can't blame you for thinking that all it is is free hosting. We've got a small but strong community that's growing pretty fast, especially considering the age of Transplant. Every comic creator has different experiences and can offer you a lot of different stuff. For example Kingston, the guy who does Lonely Fetus, has a background in indie comics and has done his own printing, knows current costs, the processes, etc. Steve Downer does James Blond -- the guy is freelance colouring for print comics right now. Have you seen any of his other stuff?

It shouldn't just be about how much space you're given or if you have to put a tiny link on your page, it should be about doing your comics amongst other people who do comics. We only do ours because we enjoy them. That's the best attitude I've seen. Community means a lot.

I'm not telling you to apply -- if you're happy where you are, great! Then just in case you interpret this message wrong (as it is so easy to do online), I'm not attacking you or calling you a moron. It's all good.

Yeah. Community is important. I whole heartedly agree with you there. And I later checked about your applying setup (my mistake).
But I digress, Yeah, It's about community. And I respect that a great deal. And since there is nothing that is stopping me from being part of the transplant or keenspace community (i.e. the forums don't discriminate who is and who is not hosted by their respective systems), it unfortunately came out sounding, it seems, that all I cared about was the logsistics of the situation. I don't. But that is what I had the most to question, being that to me, the community aspect is a moot point because of the overall friendly natures of both hosting sites.
Anyway, all the best. I'm sure you'll run into me again in either these forums or the transplant forums. On an odd note, your writer has the same name as the college GSI/art teacher that "persuaded" me to start writing and drawing comics. And I did, for his class. And then stopped. But dammit, the seeds were there just waiting to grow. Small world. Keep hope alive, All that jazz.
Sidenote: Our community here ain't too shabby either. Okay okay. It's down-right awesome-tastic. So awesome, in fact, that I described how awesome it is by using a word that makes me cringe: awesome-tastic. Ummm... Awesome awesome awesome.
