Ever creep yourself out?

Post by Christwriter »

I've finally gotten to another REAL story element to my story. I'd been looking forward to doing these pages for months. I'd had them pictured perfectly in my mind...

...but now when I do them, not only has the perfection factor vanished (you never get a page to look EXACTLY how you want it, you just settle for somewhere-in-between because of time constraints)...but I have totally creeped myself out.

I have discovered that not only do I NOT want to do these pages anymore (though THANK GOD they're almost done) but I wish I had never thought of them and I hope they don't give me the screaming creaps later on in life.

Has anybody else ever creeped themselves out, or at least had to write something that they never would agree with, promote or otherwise enjoy?

For some reason I hate writing stereotypical "guy talk" - catcalls, etc. It seems forced and fake when I write it, like "Woo, check out those melons!" I never talk like that. Hell, I don't think anyone talks like that.

I wrote a murder novel... I'd say I've pretty much freaked myself out several times in that process considering I'm a pacifist and the book isn't too pacifist-like at all.

I had a story with incest in it once. Never did anything with it. But the planning stages had gotten pretty far before I lost interest. For many reasons it would have been a creepy thing to do

That's just the sort of loathsome, twisted person I am.

I do that quite often, but I don't really creep myself out in the process. In fact, I derive a certain, perverse pleasure from it.

I wrote a Dr. Suess style story with a Cthulhu theme. In retrospect it was creepy.

I creep myself out all the time.

There was one bad instance where I kind of had a "I can't do this!" breakdown...but in working through that I came up with a better direction to take for the difficult page. So it all worked out.

Yeah, I've got something like that brewing in my head somewhere - trying to create a world kind of thing. People may do things in this world that is usually frowned upon in real life, and I find myself trying to justify the action. And I'm afraid to expose the idea, for fear of people thinking that I have these perverse secret desires that I'm trying to act out through the comic (which I don't, naturally).

I wrote/drew a story about a ten year old boy who had a relationship with an old but beautiful witch woman. When the old witch woman found someone else, the boy hanged himself with a rope made of razors.

It was trippy, and disturbing.

Ironically, the things that creep me out the most in my comics are the romance elements.

Well, it's not so much creep but cringe... but they do make me frequently regret putting them in.

Well, first of all, CW, I noticed that I have a need to back up on some more extreme scenes I think up as well. But the thing is, I don't wanna make tame comics, the messages aren't tame so the ways I tell them shouldn't be either. I usually force myself to put such elements in.
Perhaps I do freak myself out. I wouldn't call it freaking out (in my case) but there is some off reaction, indeed.
But that those pages don't turn out like I intended, that is true, and I still haven't find a cure, except maybe constant rewriting.

Some deranged people such as myself like creepy so it's something we desire and try to create.

If you like creepy, check out David Firth's cartoons at http://www.fat-pie.com

And Kris, that's weird b/c I'm an ultra-pacifist and I love writing and drawing gruesome, sadistic stuff. =X Plus, you like JtHM o_O

So have fun with it. Turn it into a way to be creative and ridicule them. If you hate writing it, it's probable that your readers won't like reading it.

Yeah, I can't write that stuff either. Even when it's right, it seems faked. Even when you see it on the streets, it seems faked.

As for creeping myself out when writing, no. I wallow in perversity. It's my hobby. But I don't do 99% of the stuff I know about, largely because it seems like a lot of work for very little reward*. It's easy to write about though, so a lot of odd stuff shows up in my fiction.

The latest comic I read that creeped me out is the current Clan of the Cats storyline.

There is something just freaky about being impaled on an eletrical post... *winces*

I've creeped myself out.

Most of the things I've creeped myself out about are personal enough that I won't share them though.

Stinky creeps me out. Most of my stuff doesn't creep me out, even the really raunchy, personal stuff. Some of it Does scare me though. I think the two are a lot different.

I creep myself out by reading ghost stories at 1am when there's nobody else at home and I deserve every horrible thought I think up as a result.
