Yeah, I tend to agree with RemusShepherd -- I've been a member of many forums, but I tend to get bored with most of them after a while. It gets to be too much of a time-suck, trying to keep up with everything that's happening on them. And, after a while, some of them just start to feel boring, or you get a wave of trolls, etc., etc...

That being said, I've quietly vanished from the Keenspace forums repeatedly -- but this seems to be the one place that I just can't stay away from. (Hence, my previous comment.)

At any rate, if you really think the resentment thing's going to happen, Jex, then I suppose it's better that you leave with a bunch of tearful farewells, rather than being booted out a few months down the road. But I'll miss you. :(

I hope that resentment fades some day, and you come back. Or better yet: you find time to resume your comic in the way you want to so you don't have to be resentful. There will come a time in the near future that I will fail to do my comic justice, but I'll just keep plugging away like Soap, even if it means long periods of nothing. Maybe this comment will make you more resentful; maybe it will make you reconsider. But try to think of your comic as a hobby and not an obligation. You don't "owe" your comic, and you don't "owe" us anything.

I truly enjoyed talking with you and reading your comments, and I was hoping for the best for Teo and Sara. Best of luck to you, and I hope you drop by again someday.

You're going to stop doing something you love just because you love it too much? That's like dumping someone because you think they're too good for you, It's crazy! :-? If you

Good luck with everything in the future, Jex. I'm not sure if we ever got along or anything, most of the replies to my things I remember from you were rather negative...but that doesn't matter. I read your comic from start to finish. That's more than I can say for a fair chunk of this site.

I'll put it this way, I'm still trying to sift through Star Bored, and people really seem to love that one. Good comic, btw :D

I suggest doing what faub does. Take a break, don't fire yourself. If you're worried about your comic not being a success, you might be doing it for the wrong reasons, but if this thread is any indication, you're not doing that bad. If I had made a similar thread, I might get one or two screaming fangirls clinging at my legs begging me not to leave. I've counted more than 2 here. Several more than 2.

I've been told making a webcomic big is a gradual process. This isn't the early days of webcomicry, where we didn't have much selection, but it was obvious what was grand, and what was garbage. There's A LOT more of them now, and it's simply harder to grab a reader and drag them kicking and screaming to the deep dark pit we call a fanbase.

If you're doing this for readership, then you gotta keep at it. You need a break. If you're doing this for you, then you still need a break...but if you really want to leave, that is ultimately your decision.

Your absence will be noticed, and good luck with your future endeavours.

I'll have to say at least one more thing ...

I've had to take breaks from my comic before. A few times because of homework, a few times because of stress in other fields, and a nice three-month hiatus while I worked 60-odd hour weeks at an amusement park. And I stepped away from the forums at the same time, because I didn't have the time to get on the computer, period.

But I came back. And I kept the comic up. And I'll see it through to what I hope isn't a bitter end. There's no shame or weakness in stopping to take a break. The shame, as I've learned before, is in giving up, taking your things back, and leaving.

That said, I hope your intermission on T&S is a pleasant one, and that you will find yourself pulled back to drawing (I eventually found ways to scribble little cartoons while working at the park, even). It's a pity to lose such talent, wit, and thoughtfulness.

We can only hope he follows in my footsteps, and spontaneously comes back a year later for no reason.

Regardless of how it works out, though, goodbye and good luck in the future, Jex. And know that you're always welcome back here. So keep the page bookmarked, even if it's hidden away, so you can come back in the future and say "Hey, these guys still haven't grown up!"

We're like neverland, really, except with less Michael Jackson.

Meh...
Sorry to hear you're quitting, Jex, for whatever reasons. You have talent, and I'm not saying that just to be polite. But if it's the way it has to be...
However, I strongly object to taking down comic archive. In case someone you based character on asked you to, or something like that, I wouldn't have anything to add. But if it's one of your moods, then I think you'll be making a mestake.
Same with forums. I can understand if you got bored from a forum and left it, that happens very often. Then again, if you're leaving it because you're not comfortable with being surrounded by people who actively draw webcomics, you're silly. But if you're leaving just because you got some kind of decision to attend only places where you're directly concearned with the subject, that's just unreasonable.
So stay. You know you'll miss me.

JexKerome wrote:You want my reason to leave the forums? Fine, but you're not going to like it.

It comes down to resentment. My comic means so much to mean that I've decided to end it rather than fail to do it justice, and hanging around here would just remind me of that. And of course, to the fact that most of you are still doing what we love. So to stay here means I'll be resenting all of you.

A normal person might be able to shrug it off and let friendship ease the pain, but I'm not a normal person. My resentment towards you people would grow, and little by little it'd begin to seep into my behavior towards you, as it's doing right now. It would escalate into more and more offensive behavior until I got malleted and banned forever, alieniating and hurting many of you in the process.

Sounds weird, even childish, but I assure that it has happened before and that it will happen again. So if you don't mind (and even if you do) I'll spare all of us from such an ocurrence.

I should be able to keep civil for a little while, and I hope the Keencards are done by then. If not, I'll have to leave with them unfinished.
Jex, I'm the exact same way. Who knows maybe all you need is a break and you'll be back better than ever. Or you may realize there's life outside of webcomics. Good luck to you.

Actually, what the hell is that comic "Mcduffies" doing in our little comic forum ring? It updates far too much!

See that? There's already plenty of resentment on this forum. We're used to it by now. I doubt we'll even notice a bit more. :)
