Yeah, I could find good music in the past, but RIAA kept tightening its grip.

This is a perfect example of Moe's version Post-Modernism:

And this should be an easy one to find.
Hey, I'll do this one, since I know/have it already.

(would've added to this thread sooner but I suck at writing reviews, as you will see)

I always understood "The American Jesus" in this song to mean "money". "overwhelming millions every day"..."a power, a vital prescence... [..] lurking all around..." "He helped build the President's estate"....etc etc etc...

What I always liked about Bad Religion was Graffin's ability to fit all those syllables into every line of lyrics. (I once heard them described as "thesaurus rock". Hilarious.) And despite the fact that he also has "the most un-punk vocals ever", he also wrote great folky melodies. What I DIDN'T like is that I sometimes felt like he was talking down to the listener, trying to prove how intelligent he was and sometimes sounding arrogant in the process.

btw, I haven't heard any of the latest Bad Religion album, "Empire Strikes First"...is it any good?

My song recommendation...let's see, what's my Song of the Week on my comic's site...

Blue Orchids - "Bad Education".

(I would've picked a Fall song, but, y'know, nobody seems to like them, and I figure this'n is more "accessible...")

Bump. C'mon!

Trying to find the song somewhere online...
And a Fall song would actually have been better - I like the Fall a lot (I'm in Manchester, it's a legal obligation) and if I didn't already have the track my mate Ste would have...

Well...come to think of it, _I_ had a hell of a time finding that Blue Orchids song myself. Even on Soulseek! :o It was just the first thing that sprang to mind and I couldn't think of anything else.

So...sorry...forget that. er...Fall song. let's see... "Impression of J Temperance". I love that'n and I don't see it mentioned a whole lot.

I keep getting beat to the review post... as to the new Bad Religion album, I haven't heard it, but if they got butler helping out with song writing chores again it probably won't disappoint Process of belief was pretty good... probably the best BR album I'd heard since Recipe.

The Fall - Impression Of J Temperance
Like most Fall stuff, this shows the influence of 60s garage stuff, being based on a one-chord bass riff (sounds like the bass is being doubled by moog, but it may just have been split between two different effects) and martial drums. Sounds like something The Monks might do musically, but it also has a flavour of Beefheart's spoken-word-over-music stuff (think Sam With The Showing Scalp Flat Top). The guitar (which only appears intermittently) is playing eastern-flavoured scales. Sounds like it's been put through a Leslie. Reminds me alternately of Dick Dale and Ennio Morricone.
Not one of the Fall's best tracks, but still bloody good.

My recommendation - Ken by The Negro Problem.

The Negro Problem -Ken

I will honestly say when I read the title I was thinking under ground south flordia hip hop.. and boy was I pleasantly in error. The song comes on and I'm given these nice root style twang accoustics with reggae breaks and a quick muted tempo vocals telling the story of a Ken doll who liked Gi Joe- instead of Barbie. Quite fun, yet at the same time deeply serious music. actually I was so concentrating on the nice accoustic work I had to go back through and find the lyrics.

this was my first listen to the band, I think I might have to grab up an album some time. This band won't be replacing my island favorites I doubt, but they do have a knack with the some tradtional reggae sounding riffs with an urban flair. quite a nice bit of a song.
