No one loves the insult comic
I still wish I had any idea why everyone is so angry. What are we supposed to be (or not be) taking seriously, again? That... well, it's the question.
Is it the quality level of these forums alone that's up on the chopping block? If so, yes, there is a point that the forums aren't some magical Unicornville, but no forums are! They're forums! They're incredible time-sinks. They're inherently unorganized spam-fests filled with strangers yelling at each other in circular arguments that never get anywhere, all of them trying to make their voice heard, and (in this instance) trying to plug their comic highest into the realms of internet "fame".
But that's all of them. This is not a unique problem by any means.
On the other hand, it's a good place to network and socialize with people in a friendly and funny environment, which is the aspect I always came here for. It was one of the most troll-free, least animositous (not a word) forums I had ever come to. I started disappearing because this stopped being the case. Also, I'm apparently an "oldbie" and nobody listens to / likes me anymore. So yeah, in that respect? The forums have taken the same wacky, elitist attitude that makes this forum just like all the others.
So in short: Quit your pointless yelling and namecalling! Can't you see?! You're tearing this family apart!!!
Ranting over, I'll go back to easily ignored song lyrics now if you wish.

I'm sorry, Jaster. We're always going to have "trolls" everywhere in society; online or otherwise. If you just keep leaving places at the first sign of asshattery, then you're not gonna ever find a nice place to just get comfortable and chill.
Not everyone's angry, and not everyone's looking for fame. For maybe a few hours out of a whole day of crap, forums or webcomicing are a nice reprieve for people.

Also, if I see yet another thread/post/mention about how cool this forum was and how much it sucks now, I'm going to FLIP OUT.
Seriously, gang. Everyone's welcome to stay if they want to, but if you got problems with us, just go look for another community that suits your needs rather than come here and insult my friends and the rest of the regulars around.
Everyone and their mother know Dark Magician starts the worst threads ever, so there's no real logic in dragging this pointless shit on. Everyone is entitled to have their opinion, but I'd prefer if you did something constructive with it rather than summoning old trolls that no one gives a shit about and the likely attitudes.

You know, I think one of the first threads I ever posted in was one of those. As a newbie, that was probably pretty stupid -- practically painting a target on myself for every disgustingly nostalgic forumite.RPin wrote:Also, if I see yet another thread/post/mention about how cool this forum was and how much it sucks now, I'm going to FLIP OUT.
Anyway, these forums are like some kind of wonderful drug -- no matter how rotten it gets around here sometimes, I always come crawling back like some sort of pathetic addict.

That's a touchy subject for me too. Just for the record, here are just a couple of reasons why this Forum is cooler than it was several years ago:RPin wrote: Also, if I see yet another thread/post/mention about how cool this forum was and how much it sucks now, I'm going to FLIP OUT.

1. Back then, I remember Kevin Wolf was complaining how he can't make people participate in drawn follow-up-stories and stuff. I distinctively remember him saying "How hard it is to put a paper in scanner and upload it to internet?"
Well, since last year, noone is that lazy anymore. After last year's Battle Royale, it pretty much changed and now we have three comic jams on games forum, "Art show" and similar threads here, all in all much more drawing as oposed to talking now.
I guess it constitutes this forum as more comic-related than before.
2. This forum is now one of the most active webcomic communities. Back in the time when mcBean was active, it was a rather closed community. Nowadays, it's visited not only by spacers, but also Keenspot artists, Modern Tales artists, indy artists.
3. This forum is not more open to new people, more friendly to new artists. Artists who only started drawing can post parallely with masters of drawing and noone will put them down. Back when T&T forum was formed, it was rather inactive. Nowadays, it's a great resource for artists in learning, there's always several people actively giving advices.
4. No plugs and Free association games in General Discussion.
5. A set of incredibly funny, smart and talented people are forum regulars here. I mean, for instance, just imagine the forum without Mr.Bob. Your life would be poorer without him.
I think DM's dream is to become Van Douchebag when he grows up nyo.RPin wrote:Everyone and their mother know Dark Magician starts the worst threads ever,...
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

Now now, don't put me into an awkward position. I made a statement that I wouldn't comment on the stuff Miguel does for the sake of our friendship (and he seems to have tuned his attitude down, so why bring this up again?), and I don't have anything against DM. I don't like the game he calls the box, and this kind of thread would look better at the off-topic forum, but overall I have nothing against him. He's just out to have fun, there's nothing wrong with that.JexKerome wrote:I think DM's dream is to become Van Douchebag when he grows up nyo.
You missed the "nyo", Rodrigo; I'm joking. And judging from DM's earlier reply to your original comment I'm sure he's not offended. Lighten up!RPin wrote:Now now, don't put me into an awkward position.
