did about 7 pages for magellan and an equal amount for loxie & zoot... will probably do the same this month also, although now i also need to draft the next set of pages for part 2 of magellan.
last month i also resisted the urge to start another project...
Magellan ... super hero cadets - their worst enemy is themselves!
Loxie and Zoot ... cos nudists have adventures too y'know!

Finally got my comic going again, and I'm sticking to a regular schedule pretty well. Happily, it seems that I'm getting almost more hits than I was a few months ago when the last comic had been posted.

So yeah, hoping to continue my new schedule, as well as get this dang storyline done.

In October I managed to get various comics done, get various stories written, not get laid. In November I will be trying to maintain (and perhaps heighten!) the first two goals, reversing the third.

October: Got comic up and running.

November: Will expect invitation to Keenspot. (That should come soon after I have five comics up, right?)

I don't really see any point in promoting my comic before I have a reasonably large archive. Say, 30 comics. And at the rate of one comic a week, that will be... uh... next May. Next year I should have finished one of my current projects so I should be able to spend more time on my comic, maybe even do two comics a week.
This webcomic, seen here is hosted on the free web host Comic Genesis which pretty much proves its not popular.

ZE STRIP

I've got script (in the form of a general plot in my mind and a few jokes I want to make along the way) for months to come, and I'm liking the way the comic's going. I looked at the old strips the other day, and I think the art's improved. The great thing is that I can experiment with things that once would have scared me, such as weird angles, or crowd scenes, and feel reasonably happy with the result. I'm not at the stage yet where I can draw a scene exactly the way I picture it in my mind, but hopefully I'll get there eventually. Also, I noticed that the faces and expressions of the main cast have become more set in my mind, so when I draw I see immediately if that's an "Ohforf face" or not.

READERSHIP

Well, I went to check my figures and I lost readers! I went from an average 1486 daily uniques for September to 1365 OMG OMG what are those stupid 121 people doing! Surely nothing as good as reading my strip! :x
The reason seems to be that towards the end of September I had mad visits for about a week (like 2000+ a day) and I have no idea how or from where, because I sucketh at reading those webaliser stats. It was about the time when PA went medieval on William G and Buzzcomix, so maybe it was stray fanbois. In that case, I'm not sorry that I've lost them :o

As for personal satisfaction factor, well, I'm quite happy with the readership I've got, I'd never have thought that word of mouth on the internet was so powerful. Also, I'm very happy when people who don't play online games tell me that they read the comic and understand most of the jokes and like it. Finally, I've started getting compliments for the "art", which is something I never thought would happen. I think they're just being nice, but I'm a sucker for compliments, so there.

TIME MANAGEMENT

I managed to weather the storm of two very addictive games coming out at once, Sims 2 and World of Warcraft (well, its beta anyway). I had to make huge efforts to pry myself off the games sometimes, but I've managed to update on time, yay me! Only one black and white panel and the rest in colour, too.

On the other hand, and that's my one and only gripe, this comic is so fucking time-consuming to draw! Sometimes I look at strips that do mad cut and pasting, no colouring, and think that these guys were wise in the ways of the world when they started a comic like that. Colouring the strip that is currently up (Ye Aulde Ballroom) took me ALL of Friday night. Anyway I'm the author of my own demise, because I'm getting crazier and more ambitious when it comes to settings. There was no reason why, for example, some of the recent dialogue had to take place at a banquet, or in a crowded ballroom, but I just get these ideas for a setting that sound fantastic at the time and eventually mean that I spend days drawing and colouring just one strip. At the end though, it's really nice to look at the finished thing, and it's something that lasts, compared to transient things like levelling characters in a computer game :)

I started my comic, and have managed to stay on a regular update schedule for two weeks. ^_^ I figure these are definite accomplishments...

Next comes the "keep on a regular update schedule" thing...

Well, I only started out about halfway though last month. With a five strip launch week plus one extra from weekly updates, my archive consists of six strips. I also have the other pages in working order, and consider it a bit bizarre that so far there's probably more stuff in the other sections than in the actual webcomic.

I took the precaution of writing several strips beforehand as a "cushion", in case some mishap befell me. My comic updates on Saturdays. There are four Saturdays this November. I currently have four comics in the "cushion". That pretty much takes care of this month.

This is just as well, as I appear to have mild RSI. I can just about type, write and use a mouse with my left (non-drawing) hand. My right hand doesn't want to cope with the business of drawing. Which is a pity, because I do have comic ideas lined up. In the meantime, I'm trying to use a computer as little as possible (this is as little as possible, by my standards).

"While the bond market seemed to keep afloat during the third quarter, a predicted 15.5% drop in the Dow Jones Industrial Average in the fourth quarter may cause record losses in corporate shares across the board, causing a ripple through investments whose effects will be visible in the second quarter of 2005..."

Similarly, my comic recorded record losses in average viewership in its dramatic drop from a record high of 2004 total, with an average of 66 unique views per day, closing October with only 1710 total views - dropping to a level below that of June's - and an average of only 55 views per day, a decline of over 15%. The reason is probably that of switching from a 7-day per week update schedule to only a 5-day per week one, but a recovery is expected later this month or next month.

As an assessment of the entire fiscal year, in its first five months - from December 2003 to April 2004, my comic had relatively low statistics, with total views ranking below 300 per month. I had a dramatic shift at roughly the 2nd thru 3rd quarter of this year, skyrocketing from 382 total views to 1197 views, a growth of over 48% in a single month! It went from there to 1797 total views in June, peaking in October with 2004 views. It seems to be declining now, but I am hoping that it will rebound within the next 3-4 weeks.

And that's all from AOD's financial times!

You know what I find sad?
I haven't updated in almost three months because of school, but I still have gotten almost exactally 1600 visits a month since August.
Now I feel like I am depriving my fan base that I didn't know I had until I went on hiatus, and they all started showing up.

I'm so ecstatic I need to utter this. I am doing well so far on my goals.

thewebcomiclist.com says I'm rank 650 out of 957 after only 4 days, which is clearly better than many other comics of similar age, and some that are several months older.

I've regressed a lot during October, and my paltry readership sank expectedly. As for November, I don't know have a definite plan. I'd better update more frequently and visit this forum more to see what's going on.

Welly well welly,
October was a great month. Managed to update far more often than our intended three times a week. And the big news is: We picked up some new referrals in the last few weeks of October, which virtually doubled our daily visits. Those numbers are staying strong so far this month, so the skies the limit for November. Oh, happiness. :D

October: I didn't manage to get everything done that I wanted, but I did manage to introduce my new character, and my new sword.

November: I will finally take a new step in my comic-ending the intro chapter, the bloated mammoth intro chapter which has taken over a year and 100 comics to finish. It will end, even if I have to kill it with only my bare hands and a cold blunt rock. I will finally move the main plotline along and who knows how long the next chapter will take me.

Visitor wise: quite good, managed to increase my readership, average visits were up by 33 from september (my previous best month) and I ended up with about 1200 more in october than september, my biggest jump in stats since april. I haven't seen a dramatic rise so far this month, but so long as I don't drop I'm fine with that.

I did pretty well in October. My visits doubled from September, and people are finally paying attention to whether or not they win my art giveaways. Also, I managed to keep my update schedule despite programming assignments of doom.

As for November, I'm going to finally get to introduce the last (and in my opinion, the coolest) of my four main characters properly. I'm also very eager to get into some more character development and hopefully even out the ridiculous amount of favoritism towards the main character.

And even though I guess it's not that impressive, I did make #277 on thewebcomiclist. That's not bad, right ^^;;? Plus, I got compared to "Juvenile Orion". I'm not sure exactly what that is, but it's probably good! Yayyyy! *collapses from exhaustion*

I finished a 7 page story and I am working on another one at least as long. Then I hope to start a much longer series. But that will probably be December, or maybe January.
