Congratulations! Don't listen to the people who will inevitably scold you for making the move; I wonder if any of us would really turn down an offer like that...?
Ping, I was wondering ... Have you found that your readership has continued to increase, despite the fact that you've moved to Graphic Smash? I know that personally, I won't read anything that I have to pay for, the only exception being your comic, since I had already seen the archives before you switched over.

Well, judging by the number of subscribers for the MT sites (For all the time I've been in Graphic Smash, the number of subscribers have steadily increased), apparently, people do.pockybot wrote:Why would anyone agree to sign up for being part of a subscription comic circle? The whole point of webcomics is that they are free.
It's not that much money when you think about it. A month's subscription to one of these sites (Less than 3 US dollars) would barely be the cost of a single Tube ticket or a day's bus pass for me in London.
Money's not the question. It's the mentality that you have to pay for something that people find it hard to get over.
Well, and the means to pay it too. Not everyone has PayPal. But I hear the MT is looking into alternative payment methods to people who don't have credit cards or paypal accounts, so maybe one day in the future pay comics might be easier to access.
Well, my readership has increased on the Graphic Smash side, while I'm still maintaining the majority of my Keenspace readers (but I did lose some). In the recent Historical Romance Comic Crossover Asarea organised, I even had a few new readers sign up for Graphic Smash accounts just because of my comic.Keffria wrote:Ping, I was wondering ... So I guess my readership is still increasing, albeit not as quickly as before.
Being a pay comic isn't for everyone, but it works with some people.
I think if Monique wants one, all she has to do is let Indy (the moderator) know.hartchamber wrote:will the folks at graphic smash be giving you a forum at talkabout comics, so we can all drop by and still talk to you. or will we all have to wait until you drop by here again?

Im going to have to side with Fred Gallagher's position...a webcomic is online because it is free for all to see...if people wanna give money they will donate or buy your merch. Anyone being excluded because they cant display flash, or dont wanna shell out paypal isnt a good thing. Your only limiting potential readers, and for mos tof us...we need all the readers we can get,

*grin* I wish I was that idealistic about things. But I suspect I'm too practical for it anymore.
But as I said before, I never did my comic to get popular with readers to begin with. This comic exists just to learn my craft, so it doesn't bother me as much how many people read it. Maybe someday when I get good enough it will, but at the present I'm still happily pottering away.

Hey, there's enough space for both the subscription and free comics to exist. The money charged at said subscription sites are not much, and I'm thinking about getting one as well. I'm still deciding which one, tho. The stuff at PV Comics is neat-o, but I totally <3 Vera Brosgol and the rest of the GAM staff.
The fact that said subscription sites are doing very well only shows it. Now, if there's a subscription site that can be described as lame, it's this one.

I have a forum on Drunk Duck that until now has not had much traffic, but here it is:hartchamber wrote:will the folks at graphic smash be giving you a forum at talkabout comics, so we can all drop by and still talk to you. or will we all have to wait until you drop by here again?

Hi folks, I'm Darryl and I work with Monique on GAAK. Fromthe moment she found out that GS was interested in UNA-F her very first thoughts were of how making such a move would affect her readers. How she could continue to entertain them and still make the move to a PPV site like GS. I assured her of that GS was a perfect place to do just that because of it's strips are free the day the are updated. So the UNA-F faithful could still enjoy their favorite comic the way they always have.
Knowing Monique and working with her the past 3 years on GAAK it's been rather exciting for me to see her finally getting all the recognition her talents deserve. I think Drunkduck was the perfect place to start that journey. It'll be even more exciting for me to see where it goes from here.

It's like Sherlock Holmes meets the 60's tv show "The Avengers" with a dash of James Bond for flavor!
