Well one is based on me and how I dress (including the height, or lack of it) Mostly they're just the type of person I wish I could be. Most of the jokes, in fact 99 percent, are based off of thingd I said, and things my friends have said/done to me. They're all crazy, but I could do an entire comic on them if I bothered, and thta's jsut the events involving ME. Not that this matters much since I have barely finishing redoing the comic, so there's only 4 pages.

One of my lead characters' hair looks suspiciously like mine. It wasn't intentional, I swear - she had it first! Great, that just makes me sound lame, copying a comic character's hair, and my own, no less...

Uhh... But I swear, nothing else about me leaks into my comic...

I would never draw a character based on myself, I think its just a way to boost your own ego and get attention. too many times it will lead to favorinig "your" character over the story.

I have less of a problem basing a char. off myself than off other people I know. In fact, one of my characters is basically a reflection of my personality. Ironically, he's the one who gets screwed over the most.

With other people, however, every time I see them I am inadvertently reminded of the character based off them. And sometimes I automatically associate someone I know with a character of mine. Which sucks. Yeah.

Problem? No. Do I do it? Hell, yeah. All of my characters are based on me to some extent, albiet me in a role-playing mode. The main character of my first novel-length work started out as me - deliberatly, since I wanted the main character to be easy to write (a first novel has enough problems) - but he'd mutated into someone else by the end.

And, just to keep things on topic, he did make it into my comic. Image

Nope. No problem at all. The two main characters in my comic our based off of me and my co-author. By based I mean they have our names, and they are roughly the same age and gender. As we go along it's turning out to be less and less what I am and more and more a different person. It's still kinda fun though, there's some connection to the character so it's easier to feel what the character is feeling.

For example, I am still somewhat creeped out if I picture this in my mind.

No, no problem. I've been doing that for years, really. Of course, those years of my various doodlings are what we call "practice" and would pretty much make your eyes decide to burrow deep into the back of your skull. But still.
Is cleaning up after your past self dishonest or just prudent?

I'm not sure, but I'm doing it in hopes it's the latter. [Signature deleted.]

All the flaws my characters display are mine to claim. Apart from that, none of them is like me.
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

for the record, I totally have a problem with having a character based upon myself. feels so arrogant sometimes. but, "write what you know", hopefully I know myself.

We've only got five characters in our comic at the moment, although one or two are about to make their presence felt in the near future. They've always been part of this little universe, it's just that they've yet to properly appear within any sort of plot line.

Out of those five, I reckon the three kids are all based to some extent on me, even the girl, or at least, based on the me we all would like to think we could be.

Did that make sense?

As for the other two, there's probably a bit of me in them too, it's just I don't know if I want to know which bits.

Does it cause me a problem? Nah. I even managed to give myself a cameo in one of the strips, without mentioning who I was. And then I ended up making myself look stupid.

Not too hard to do, granted...
