I remember having a stack of seven penciled or mostly penciled pages, which was pretty cool. But when I launched Freakboy on Jan. 3, I had three finished pages, plus a cover. I wrote a moment ago that I had an "okay" buffer to start with, but now that I think about it, that's probably worse than "okay." At least I've almost made it through the whole first chapter without missing an update (*fingers crossed*), so it coulda been worse.

I currently have a 20 page buffer, but I want more. More. Because of my freelancing, I haven't been able to draw two pages a week like I was doing at the start of the year. But if I can draw at least an extra page a month, my buffer will slowly grow.

I should stop trying to draw things decently.

I had 13 pages of buffer when I started Book II in January. Man, I wish I still had half of that.

Once upon a time I had a year's worth of buffer. Around 260 comics.

I once had a glorious 21 comic buffer but that ran out.

I've been trying to build a buffer with this comic but I keep running into issues with my computer. :(

As of this posting, my secret project is actually done. Holy crap. This took almost 2 years.

Of course, there's still the long and tedious editing process which will probably take at least 2 more months, but it's done-ish. The chance that I will get bored and abandon it before completion is now zero.

I was going to post some kind of teaser for it but I am ludicrously tired. The ending part ended up going on way longer than I expected it to and I'm probably going to end up trimming it later. But it's donnnnneeeee...

Currently on 21 for Sub-Consensus, one episodes worth. I've got 23 days till it starts running to finish the site design then I'll have 6 weeks to finish RTP chapter 2. Hopefully I'll get it all done. I won't be doing my course by then which'll free up a lot of time.

Here's the title image and brief synopsis of my secret project:

Image

Life is never dull for captain Corsair, the boldest adventurer to ever sail the known waters. Every day brings new challenges and new conquests, but when a missing friend returns bearing a plea for help from a strange alternate world, he finds himself drawn into a conflict unlike any he has ever known.
A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing, but with it comes the power to change everything.

20 days to go, I've been messing around with html all weekend and almost everything is in place. Just have to rearrange a bit of code, rename the files and make a few test runs

Most frustrating thing was trying to set up an iframe. Brief explanation:
I'm using absolute positioning so I can overlap images.
The ***next_day*** etc tags can't be potitioned so I'm having to do it manually.
Originally (long ago) I wanted to use the ***raw_date*** and the ***include*** tags but you can't put tags inside tags.
So I've had to use an iframe, but line it up with the original file so you can't tell.

I'll put up a link to the finished test pages when it's done so everyone can see what I'm playing at.
Then I just need to test if it works while it's uploading (putting future days up) and put something behind all my links so they don't just go to empty pages.

There's a front page now which so far just consists of a randomly chosen picture of one of the 5 characters seen in Episode 1. Sub-Consensus!

Because it looks like I'll already be behind schedule with my next update, I think I'm going to really quickly finish the chapter by just posting the pages like every other day or something instead of the tues/fri schedule I've been following. I'm tired of this chapter and the sooner I can get it out the door and on the bus to school the better.

Buffer? What's that??? Is that like that thing retirement that I keep hearing about but know I'll never have firsthand?

Man, I really need to stop watching hockey and doing yard work/house work long enough to finish this next comic I'm working on!I've only been working on it for over two weeks now.

*sigh*

Oh, Peter, you used to be sooooo punctual with your updates...

Course, I know full well that in order to have the free time necessary to get those better than average updates I'd need to: 1) be single, 2) live in an apt. or with parents, and 3) work less than 40 hours a week - altogether a price that I'm not able - or willing - to pay. So, I'll get done what I can get done and not worry about the rest. I'm not 20 years old anymore and I don't have an audience pining for new cartoons anymore.

Trying to tell myself it's not that I'm taking an exceptionally long time to color, but that I'm trying to color an exceptional amount of pages. And I haven't even gotten to backgrounds yet :/

Due to current time constraints I may have to flip the next two storylines. Of course it would be more helpful if I'd finished writing the second of those storylines that I now need to move up...

You should have taught your legos to comic themselves by now.

Yeah I would have thought Lego would program a mindstorm and hook it to some random storyline generator by now.

Alas, this is not the case. There are still some things I have to do myself.
