We buy a lot of British tv, they're often the most popular and "English humor" tends to be synonymous to quality comedy (though tell that to the n-th season of Allo Allo).
I'm fairly certain that we imported Jamie Oliver before Americans did too.
I do most of my viewing on-line these days, and the only shows I've recently found time for are Doctor Who, How I Met Your Mother, the Borgias and Game of Thrones -- though I notice there seem to be common threads of viewership here.
So basically what you're saying is that my "Yeah, I watched Doctor Who before it was cool in America," has absolutely nil hipster cred value here whatsoever.

One of the reevaluations that seems the most credible to me is that episodes that Lynch directed were superb, while those that other directors did varied greatly. On a certain level I'd agree it doesn't "hold up," inasmuch as you can definitely tell you're watching something from 1990. And I'm not quite at the end of season one. But all things considered it's just an amazing thing to watch. The overacting, the love affair between Agent Cooper and Sheriff Truman, the fact that not only did this air on network television in the early 90's but everyone watched it.
Scripted television has been better than it's ever been for the last decade, so it's easy to take something like Twin Peaks for granted. But so far I'm impressed.
A subscription on Netflix has got me rewatching a bunch o' stuff. The IT crowd in particular. I'd forgotten how good it was. Some episodes are right up there with Spaced and Black Books.
Is Game of Thrones really worth watching? I got most way throught the first book, and then watched the first two episodes, and it seems to be following the same story fairly accurately. Considering the length and overall slow pace of the book, I don't know how well it bodes.
My boyfriend got me interested in White Collar. I wasn't expecting to like it that much, but after like the first two episodes it got really good. You need some suspension of disbelief but it's well written and the characters are all likeable and interesting.
But I'm tired now and don't yearn for anything that makes me think critically, so it's time to put on Murder She Wrote. hooray Angela Lansbury!
