Australia Day! :)

Post by Dutch! »

Happy Australia to everyone, especially any lingering Aussies lurking around the forum!

Time to eat barbecued lamb chops, sink a beer, play cricket on the beach or in the backyard and take a four day weekend because tomorrow is Friday and that means the great Australian notion of 'Taking A Sickie'. :)

And the best bit... no marching bands ANYWHERE! :D

Cheers.

Australia day is a lie parents tell their children -- everyone knows Australia doesn't really exist.

I played cricket once when I was 9 years old. I was pretty good at it, but haven't played since. Stupid America :x

I think that these Australians aren't real Australians. None of them ever talked about vegemite, and pop culture teaches me that that's all Australians ever talk about.

I saw a bunch of guys playing cricket in a park near my apartment the other week. Maybe it's catching on.

I wasn't going to pipe back in, but you mentioned them, so I thought this might be somewhat appropriate.

Well also Secret of Monkey Island and Amanda Palmer's latest album and various movies. Vegemite must be for Australia what Jerry Lewis is for France.

I miss baseball! I know that's a random comment for an Australia day thread but all this talk of cricket got me missing my favourite sport. Sure, Britain invented cricket, but we're so boring and rubbish at it. I love baseball if for no other reason that no one else I come into contact with on a daily basis does so cannot talk to me about it and bore me, but this makes it hard to follow as I can't watch it on tv (maybe if I had "Sky" but thats  so).

Talking of Veggiemite, a few months back there was a report on the Traffic and Travel that a tanker containing "Yeast extract" had turned over on the M1 (motorway) and leaked its content all over the road bringing traffic to a standstill all morning. Made lots of people laugh, the ones not stuck in the jams probably.

So, Australia... that's the fictional place with the Lion, the Scarecrow and the Tinman isn't it? Witches melt if they get wet and all you need to do get home is click your heels together. Something like that. Definately not a real place. Supposed Aussies all just put on the accent. Man that story's filled with manipulative people.
