Poll: Timing question on Cookout 2010

Post by Dragonkingdoms »

I've thought about the next cookout, and when it should be. True, we've always had them in May or June, but I'm curious about whether that's the actual best time or not, especially since I might possibly be arranging the next one if no one else is available/wants to.

Since relative to some of the areas people come from to the Cookout, it is almost always summer here in the Tampa Bay region, it doesn't really matter too much on that point- except that August/September has a lot of tropical weather that could impact the event, and November/December is busy holiday time.

Considering the timing has always been ok with people, I find the better question is not when, but where is it easier for people. Like, Florida is cool and all, but numbers of people attending dropped last year, by the time its right in the SE of the country, many people from the West coast might be all "Screwwwww that"

I wasn't aware that you had taken up the mantle of the CG Cookout Dragonkingdoms. It's a surprising amount of work, are you sure you're up for it?

June was picked for two reasons in the past - it fit with the host's schedule (ours, generally) which was critical for obvious reasons, and it wasn't in the "oh my god it's too damn hot" season in St. Louis.

I have to agree with Killbert - the issue here is location, not timing. Middle of the country is maybe not "easier" for everyone, but "generally accessable". People from the west cost won't go to florida unless they're very driven. Canada too - it's a hell of a trek vertically across our country.

I know I'm probably getting in way over in this, but at least now I know the season for it is about right. In truth, it seemed as though Nashville was less prepared for international travel than St. Louis was, although I could certainly be wrong.

Aggie's going to be busy next year (unless that's since changed?), and I didn't know how you would do it again with a little one to take care of, so it basically seems to boil down to the West Coast (which screws over the East Coast and Europe), Minneapolis (?) which screws over the South, and Florida, which screws over Canada and the West Coast.

If we're going to be screwing over a group of people, how about we screw over everyone and have it in Europe? Everyone come to Kaiserslautern!!! Plenty of floorspace at my apartment (ladies, now accepting applications for the bed space adjacent to mine).

Pussy. Next year the cookout will be in Mogadishu, Somalia. I think that's really as far away from EVERYONE as we can get. Not to mention there will be REAL pirates for the pirates vs ninjas fight.

And those damn Italians
Not to mention the Scotts deep frying anything. DEEP FRYING? No self respecting American would eat something deep fried.
Don't get me started on European deserts.

I will not be hosting Cookout 2010 under any circumstances. Reinder and I are getting married in May 2010 and planning that is already giving me fits.
