Although they're a bit of an acquired taste, you should probably check out Harvey Pekar's series of autobiographical comics and graphic novels called American Splendor. There's really nothing else out there quite like them. He's been publishing it as an independent comic for decades. He was actually the subject of a film a couple of years ago (which I admit I have not yet seen, but I want to).

Here's a link to an anthology of the comic: http://www.amazon.com/American-Splendor ... 851&sr=1-2

And the film: http://www.amazon.com/American-Splendor ... 025&sr=1-1

If given my druthers, I'd prefer to have the slice of life comic; I very much prefer fiction over non-fiction and I love a well-written set of characters.

And when it's autobiographical--and about someone I really don't know personally--I usually just don't give a flying fornication about what's happened to 'em; I only let people I know onto my LiveJournal friends list for exactly this reason, and it's why an autbiolgraphical cartoon just wouldn't hold any interest for me.

Just sayin'; no offense meant.

the coffee thing, it sounds like a cute idea =]

journal comic sounds difficult to make interesting unless you can do it in a really fun interesting way :)

Why not do both? Run a coffee shop storyline in the week and on the week end throws in a slice of life from the main character's point of view.
