Mercury, you know, I didn't quite have the pleasure of meeting you before, like oh say when I private messaged you about 3 times when trying to figure out a way to fix all the technical problems with my comic genesis site. Instead, this is the third post where you've given some sort of nasty little snide comment to me on this board, and it's really pissed me off. I spent HOURS working on the goddamned technical side of my site reading very unhelpful faqs trying to figure out what was wrong (I still don't know what was wrong because it eventually had to be reset manually on server end).

I also never got an direct reply from STRedWolf concerning my account problems (although she did wind up getting it fixed at somepoint, and for that I'm grateful), I had to spend 3 months of waiting (according to the site I should give 1-2 weeks between sending PMs before sending another), before I finally got ahold of the extremely polite and helpful Kisai and Phact0rri (they helped me out a lot and for that I thank them profusely). I literally spent MONTHS getting my account to work, while waiting for the technical end to fix whatever was messed up.

Do you think, maybe, that that could be why I didn't get all my comics up on the site? And maybe, did it ever cross your mind that's why I have a real problem with the attitude you've slung in my direction?

Hell, it even took me 4 months before I got anyone to tell me why my comic pages weren't showing up in Internet Explorer.

I would have had more than just the couple of comics up on my site if I had gotten a more prompt response.

Also - my application to comic genesis was approved with both Written Stories and PandaKing WebManga which is updated on a monthly basis.

Now, are you going to continue with this extremely uncalled for attitude towards me? Cause, I've got 6 weeks worth of reasons to be pissed off with you personally, but I don't need that kind of aggravation and I see no reason why we can't have a polite discourse other than the snide comments you've been posting.

Seriously just tell me now, because I don't really care to play these kind of games.

No, Robby, actually I'm not interested in playing any sort of messageboard games. I'm just tired of all the crap. I've got a lot of stress trying to work with my business, I don't need any manufactured B.S. in my life.

I don't post often anymore, but I feel the need to help here.

Merc is not a technical help support type person, she is an admin on a forum who's makes sure that people aren't posting threads in the wrong subforums. She moves them about or locks them to correct this problem. She can also banned people who don't follow the rules. Yelling at her for something that isn't part of what she does isn't going to help anyone.

Stredwolf is either a "He" or an "It" depending on if the community is angry at him/it at the time. Right now he's a He because he hasn't really been messing about.
Kisai is always polite and wonderful, unless you become annoying, so please stay on her good side.
I'm not sure why you'd PM Phac? The best solution probably would have been to post in the Help subforum. people who normally check that place, are willing to help with any problem.
NinjaNezumi wrote: Do you think, maybe, that that could be why I didn't get all my comics up on the site? And maybe, did it ever cross your mind that's why I have a real problem with the attitude you've slung in my direction?
people are slinging attitude, because you've slung it to them when they let you know that you're committing a forum faux pas. This community is usually very nice to people who join it, but aren't usually accepting to people who get indignant about getting the rules told to them or proclaim that they know the rules better than the people who have been here for years.

All application to Comic Genesis are approved by an automated system, a computer program that does not read nor review any comic that goes through it. Back when the approval system wasn't so automatic, it could take 6 months to get your comic approved. Comic Genesis's automated approval system does not care if your comic is pure gold or baby poo, it just clicks yes to make less work for Wolf and Kisai. so now you can get a website within days of applying instead of months. Though written stories are looked down upon for a webcomic hosting site, our automated system doesn't know the difference.

yes, and you'll find it from all angles, not just the admin, if you don't calm down. Being an ass to her isn't going to help you in the least.

Here's my clumsy attempt to defuse the situation:

Ninjanezumi, I'm sorry to hear about problems you had with setting your site up, but this is a free host, and the kind of problems are part of the deal: all admins are volunteers, aren't being paid for work on CG, and have their daily jobs to care about. So if there are problems with the service, I think they're pretty much understandable, and that you're getting a pretty good deal for the money you paid in any case. Heck, I know many hosts that aren't free, which don't give service as good as CG does.
Like CJ said, Mercury Hat is not the admin in charge of techincal aspects. Her duties are keeping order in forums, banning spammers, and that sort of stuff. Yes, she has a snarky personality, but I guarantee that she does a good admin job. But she can't help you when something's wrong with the site, and to repeat what CJ said once more, when you're having problems, your best shot is to ask about it in Help Forum. Of course, you should browse around and search to see if someone else has had a same problem recently, that would save everyone some time.

I think that what everyone's been wanting to tell you is to take webcomics less seriously. You are worrying with issues of sight-impaired readers or racial diversity among your stuff in stage when most of us worried about more practical and essential things, like improving our art, improving our writing, techniques, materials, etc. All of us know how difficult it is to make it big, and you have an attitude, well, practically as if you've already made it big and as if racial profile of people on your comic has some huge significance right now.
Consider this thread: the actual problem with is it that what you write in here really doesn't interest anyone. When you get the story going, and if we get to like the comic, we'll get interested in this kind of information, but as for now, you are just alike thousands of people who passed through here just starting their webcomics.
Your best bet when maintaining a thread like this was to see if anyone else is doing it. I can't blame you for making missteps because rules are quite loose here and many of them come down to "common sence" clause, so the best thing to do is to grow thicker skin, not let things affect you personally, and learn the etiquette along the way (except for the ones written in the sticky above, 'course).

Don't think that I'm trying to tell you how to act, though. I'm just trying to explain, if you've felt some hostility, where this hostility comes from. The best advice I could give you is to let loose, stop worrying about things and just enjoy the ride, to see webcomics as a great entertainment and hobby, not as some sort of great statement or legacy that you're giving to the world.

As for Kilbert-Robby, I think it's best that you ignore him, he's just that kind of person. I don't like him any more than you do, but there's nothing I can do about that.

To Others: let's not make a big deal out of this. Rules aren't clean-cut here and if Ninjanezumi has broken some unwritten ones, the best this to do is to address him calmly about it, like Phact or CJ did, and unlike Killbert did.
To be perfectly honest, GD is almost deserted most of the times, and Ninjanezumi is starting threads that are getting some mileage here. I mean, I never considered the issue of sight-impaired people reading comics before, and you may argue whether it's pointless or not, but I've learned a few things from that thread that I wouldn't know if the issue didn't come up, and to me it's definitely more worthwhile than talking for the hundredth time about topics like "how do I promote my comic" or "what are your experiences with tablet".
I dunno, but I think that even those semantic flip-flops in "Vision impaired" thread are better than dead silence, which is what GC came down to a couple of months ago.

StRedWolf did eventually fix the problems after a few weeks, but it still would've been nice to have had a reply telling me the problems had been fixed instead of leaving me to guess with failed logins and emails.

I did post in the forum and received no response. One of my posts is still up I deleted the others.

I received a personal response in my email specifically asking me to clarify my site. Obviously there was some sort of review by a non-automated system in my case.

thelibrary.comicgenesis.com

not

pandaking.comicgenesis.com

PandaKing is part of an entire universe which includes a multitude of things. Right now it includes a short story, a comic, and a choose our own adventure novel (which is quite a bit different).

Comic Genesis is a free webcomic hosting site, ran by 2 volunteers for KeenSpot entertainment. Those two volunteers have thousands of comics to answer support and technical problems on, plus their real lives and jobs. Complaining about them being slow or not telling you when work got done is like complaining to a Salvation Army worker that they're not ringing their bell loud enough. They created the Help Forum so when something comes up that someone besides them can take care of, it can take the work load off of them. Not everyone checks the forum everyday, so it's when patience is a real virtue. I'm not sure when the ones you deleted were posted, but I see your last one was posted just a few days ago and was helped. If you don't get a reply the first few days, don't get mad and delete the thread, because if a person that knows how to answer it comes by, you've blown your shot by deleting it.
The forum admins include the two volunteers that run this whole site and a handful of people who have had or still have comics on Comic Genesis. If you PM them all, the only ones that reply back to you are the two that can actually help you, and that's still a maybe. They're more likely to try to fix the problem and then move on to the next problem. I'm sorry you didn't like being left up in the air, but it's still no reason to start being an ass to everyone. I can not make it more clear that no one's life revolves around this forum, and even if you don't enjoy it, it does have the best people it could for their forum admin jobs. Even if you think Merc is being rude by not helping you with something she can't help you with, she isn't retaliating back at you even though you are clearly being rude to her.

Now I'm going to stop scaring McDuffies, because he's probably not used to me being so nice to someone new on this forum, and not reply to this thread anymore. If you still don't quite understand how things are run on this volunteer ran forum and webcomic hosting site, and feel the need to whine about it on this thread, I'm going to assume you're just a troll, which many people already feel that you are. I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt.

1. Keenspot is a business. It's an L.L.C. Some amount of professionalism is expected, especially when it makes contracts with other L.L.C.s such as myself.

2. I wasn't complaining about the time it took, if you had actually read what I wrote. But given the fact that you have refused twice to read what I have posted I will write it in simple sentence structure:

I was more than irritated at the foul attitude I receive from someone acting like a punk.

3. If you had half the attention span it takes to read that ignorant, asinine post you made, you would have read that the second post I expressed that I believed that the General Discussion was where I should have posted this topic. Instead, you decide to take the low road, participate with two others, including Mercury Hat, by making snide comments and being nasty. Did it ever occur to you that you could've simply said:

"Oh, you know, the place to post this was here--" posting the link to this section:

http://forums.comicgenesis.com/viewforum.php?f=807

I would've then replied:

"Oh ok I was confused by the description which simply suggests that it's only for comics that have yet to be approved?"

4. "If you don't get a reply the first few days, don't get mad and delete the thread"

Wow yet another comment by someone who doesn't bother read anything before they post. I posted a request for assistance back when I first was approved in feb. It was never replied to and in fact, I had to ask Kisai specifically to get someone to help me. It was just a "few days".

5. Unless this entire system is run by a Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic Computer, there is no excuse for the attitude received by Mercury. As she could've easily done what I said in point #3 (please see above point #3), clicked on two buttons to move this goddamned thread to the appropriate Forum View.

I post once maybe twice a week here, because I'm busy too. I'm working on a board game which is patented in three countries, I'm trying to expand the translations of my board game, while also trying to get another hundred grand to begin self publishing my books.

Yet.... I could have, and gladly would have moved my thread in the entire period that you, and several others, have decided to just flame away. Yes, this includes that nasty little post that Mercury made.

Do you realize that it's faster to move a thread, than it is to make a one sentence post? It's true!

Again, that's assuming this business isn't run on a Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic Computer.

6. I've never known so many people on a single board, who have gladly, willfully, and intentionally tried to piss off someone they know to be an author, who owns and operates his own self publishing corporation. Do you even know what authors do?  Do you even KNOW how I got the nickname Ninja Nezumi? It's a cute story. You might laugh at it.

Now, I've giving you last try, to speak to me in a nice manner. All you need to do, is say:

"Hey Kevin, you posted this in the wrong area. Please post this here: <list link here>"

I will say:

"OH, I'm sorry. I was confused, because of the description."

That's all you need to do.

That's all Mercury needed to do.

In fact, if someone can move this thread over, that'd be perfectly fine with me. :D

But....

I know you won't.

I know you'll try to insult me again, tossing your little weight around like you're some internet heavyweight just to prove you're the nasty of the nasty, and the bad of the bad.

Don't worry, if you do decide to take the low road, for the third time in a row, you won't receive a nasty response....................................... on this board 8-)

Oh and by the way I'm done recording Andrew Colon Space Custodian, now I need to design the webpages :D
