any band who has a song "everyone gets married in Cardiff" is okay by me! I have admittedly been more into Johnny Foreigner but Danananananaykroyd have a good sound.
<KittyKatBlack> You look deranged. But I mean that in the nicest way possible. ^_^;
I'm not particularly crazy about No Doubt, but if they're gonna prevent Gwen Stephany from making another solo album, then I join you in your celebration.
Whatcha Waitin For is a classic. Everything else was either blah or annoying. If nothing else I enjoy the promo photo of the band going around. Might post if I find it.
Johnny Foreigner is cool. Had I bothered posting my singles list from 08 you'd've found them in my top twenty.
That picture looks waaaaaaaay creepier than it should be.
Also, I've been hittin up old Outkast records, and let me tell yall, that shit was tight. I mean, I had no idea they were out since back when I was watching Power Rangers. That's crazy to me that they were reppin the south since then.

Speaking of mainstream rock, Nickelback's performance at the Junos was embarrassing. I heard about that then stopped paying attention out of sheer disappointment, so I dunno, maybe someone deserving won something?? I did see Chad VanGaalen on Much when I was at the gym the other day which was awesome and somewhat heartening. :3

I love the hell out of the new version of "The Greater Than Symbol and the Hash." FIGHT POP YEEEEAHHHH
Johnny Foreigner is fun too. I read these responses and put Waited Up... on. If it were not for my apparent bias against female vocals, I would probably completely adore them, haha.
Yeah, fuck Asher Roth. An e-homeboy of mine wrote a slam on that nonsense for Pitchfork.

Hells yeah. Word is Big Boi's got a new one on the horizon. Looking forward to it.

You're not missing anything. VH1 has been reduced to I LOVE _________, the Love for _______, 100 Greatest ______ of all time, and maybe an hour of music from the same 10 artists on repeat.

suppose I get an elitist indie point for not being able to stomach no doubt. bwahahaha!
Eeeh, they're no less awful than dreaded Nickelback, that's sure, if nothing then for Gwen's prissy voice and persona. They get bareable in comparision to her solo, where she really shows to what attention-grabbing depths she can sink.
Outkast's great on the other hand, I like their last two albums. Andre has been grabbing all the spotlight since the breakup, though.

I guess it's one of those deals where you had to have been an impressionable tween at the height of their popularity in order not to loathe them now.
I was listening to a lot of ska when they were starting too, ska-punk specially, and their ska seemed like lesser rehashing of the stuff I was very familiar with. Plus they were hugely popular with the Mariah Carrey-Whitney Houston-Tony Brexton crowd which I was at odds with, who all suddenly started claiming that they listen to ska. But what I really don't like was that later, quasi-industrial? period... up until then I thought that strictly musically they were decent, but that part of career was clutching at straws, not far away from our turbo-folk... though not out of character as they were MTV-created band from the beginning.
My friend and I had an awesome cover of Don't Speak. Basically we translated it to german and it sounded like Die Krupps or something.
Damn there I tried containing myself so that Senshi doesn't think I'm some kind of music hating monster, but I'm not doing very well.
I never heard thier industrial period, but I suppose its understandable. There were a lot of the newer dance hall bands, adding a lot more synth and bass into thier sounds, I like to call it "darkhall". As it was a strange place to bring the third wave ska (ska-punk) sound which was always brighter. Its a shame what happened to the dancehall revival. Jumps with Joey were a stand out at the time period, as was Hepcat.
But now you got me interested, and filled with ska nostalgia. Course were the same age,so I guess it makes sense that two guys who listen to indie, would have fallen into similar music types as kids.

Been listening to a lot of raï music recently. I've found Khaled's music quite catchy, though a lot of it is from the 90s and thus the cheesiness factor's off the scale on some of them. But Aicha's the nicest song that I've ever sort-of remembered hearing before in English, and just on its own it makes me want to learn french just so I can understand it as I hear it, rather than having to remember the translation of the verse.
Rachid Taha's my new drug though, but that might just be because he recorded a version of Rock the Casbah in Arabic that's honestly one of the best covers I've ever heard of any song - it manages to bring something new to the song without seeming to distort the message.
Also while bouncing around Youtube listening to them, I managed to find a French punk song about Asterix, so.... score? I think?
Anyone else got any non-English music to recommend?
