Yeah, it really is fantastic. Only song that really seems to break free of the bitterness.
I am about due for a revisit.
Got new Yeah Yeah Yeahs and PJ Harvey/John Parish yesterday. I'll report soon.

Re: Get Ya Freak On.
I didn't get out the record store today. but I did find something new...
http://www.nin.com/pub/strobelight/
Yes NIN as produced by Timberland! Tracks include: everybody's doing it (featuring chris martin, jay-z AND bono), pussygrinder (featuring sheryl crow), even closer (featuring justin timberlake and maynard james keenan), and my favourite-- laid, paid and played (featuring fergie of the black eyed peas and al jourgensen).
I think you will appreciate it more if your familar with the Trent Reznor and Chris Cornell battle of the tweets over Chris Cornell's new record that was produced by Timberland.

Seriously, this is like some Sigur Ros shit if they'd quit singing nonsense and wrote a pop song. Gorgeous.K-Dawg wrote:Revisited 808s and Heartbreak...still don't like the album much. But my appreciation for "Street lights" has soared even higher.
Such a great song.

Which song? :O (Or did you just have his attractive visage stuck in your mind?) Mr. Bird is one of those very few artists whose music I return to repeatedly, I mean even after obsessively playing "Eggs" and subsequently engaging in long years of regular listening, which ought to have kind of killed my interest. His wordplay is especially fun.McDuffies wrote:I had Andrew Bird stuck in my head yesterday.
I am excited about the new Dananananaykroyd album, and also that Clues album that I briefly alluded to a few months ago kind of leaked and it is kind of awesome. 2009 is the best year ever.

"Nervos tick motion", it's pretty awesome, and "Fake palindromes" is cool. Granted I like him more as a player than a vocalist, perhaps this new instrumental album is the thing for me. Of course I'd add drums and bass more often, perhaps put a distortion on his violin and make a few rockers, that might turn out cool (I still remember distorsion on Meg White's snare or John Zorn's sax) and make a few heavy songs.
Now I am totally confused at how you don't like Radiohead, Bird picked more than a few cues from them. Bridge in "Nervous tic motion" totally has Radiohead vibe, and Banking on a Myth, with a bit more cryptic lyrics, could totally pass as Radiohead song. Not to mention the whole "soulful male vocal" trend.

Re: Get Ya Freak On.
missing kef? just utter the words 'Andrew' and 'Bird' and through the ether she comes!
saw Unknown Hinson yesterday. put on an okay show. would have liked it better if I didn't have to endure the squid billies before the set.

I've been craving some old school stuff - Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, the band who sing "Champaigne Supernova" who's name I can't recall at the moment. Might have to do some downloading soon.

Re: Get Ya Freak On.

No Doubt is coming back. My prayers were answered!!
I hope it's not another Gwen Stefani album with 3 people in the background. I want Tragic Kingdom or Rings of Saturn stuff.

Re: Get Ya Freak On.
I never paid attention to No Doubt. where I'm not one who pays attention to lyrics, a vocalist's voice can throw me off a band. and Stefani's voice is one such a voice for me.Prettysenshi wrote:No Doubt is coming back. My prayers were answered!!

Yeah, good point I was pretty indifferent too. They had some catchy songs, but nothing that I'd ever go out of my way to listen to.Phact0rri wrote:I never paid attention to No Doubt. where I'm not one who pays attention to lyrics, a vocalist's voice can throw me off a band. and Stefani's voice is one such a voice for me.Prettysenshi wrote:No Doubt is coming back. Psst, my dislike of Radiohead is really just a running joke. I may not be a rabid fangirl but I do like them; it's probably just a case of my having found them long after finding so many bands that were obviously influenced by them. :3McDuffies wrote:Now I am totally confused at how you don't like Radiohead, Bird picked more than a few cues from them.
