Recently visited the Ziggurat of Ur, one of two in Iraq. Here's some pictures of me, there's just too many of the area itself to put here.

Here's me at the royal tombs just outside the Ziggurat. Two kings are buried inside, and right across from it is the Servants' Chamber. Guess who they put in there... I'm standing in front of the Servant's Chamber.

Atop the walls of Abraham's house in Ur. Yes, THE Abraham from the Bible. Through a lucky find, and coupled with comparisons between historical and biblical data to archaeological evidence, they are reasonably certain this is where he lived.

Sitting at the top of the Ziggurat you can see the royal palace behind me and to the left. On the other side of those hills is Abraham's house.

The stairs of the Ziggurat. It's about 3 and a half flights of stairs to the top of the second level. There was a whole third level that didn't survive the ravages of time.

No, this isn't part of the Ziggurat. This is the entrance to the Romanian compound on Tallil Air Base. They've got a bunch of old Russian vehicles that are pieces of junk compared to the M1115s (uparmored HMMWVs), MRAPs, and other gun trucks the American forces roll in. All they do is guard the front gate, while Ugandans guard all the entrances to the chow halls and stores.

Yes. There is a military facility in the vicinity of this region. To be more specific, the actual Ziggurat and ancient city of Ur are located ON the military facility in this region.

Ali Air Base, also known as Tallil Air Base or Camp/COB Adder, is the military installation. It also happens to be where I am assigned.

Figured this probably fits here.

So today I decided to play with bleach... and here is the result!

Turned out so well that I had to try and wear it. Unfortunately it was just one of a pile of crappy shirts I bought at the dollar store (a buck each, who can argue) so it didn't quite fit.

i think I stretched it.
