Printed mag cooperation
Hello everyone!
We are running a small press comic magazine here (being Poland, my homeland) and we're currently looking for some more material for the newest issue, that will probably take off in spring. Should you be interested in participating, we're looking for black&white stories, no more than 8 pages long, preferably stand-alone and premiere, by the end of this current year.
The topic of the issue is Four Horsemen (which, in Polish, is exactly the same as Four Riders - which opens double possibilities) or it may as well be falling into of the the categories: Hunger, War, Pestilence or Death.
We would also be interested in cooperating in longer term with an author of a comic serial, who could come up with about 15-20 pages chapter 4 times a year.
So far the zine is self-earning, but non profit yet.
Should you want to try to conquer the Polish market, we also offer cooperation on the field of stand-alone comic albums. Any details can be obtained directly from me.
Well, I can only invite you to give it a try.

Interesting idea. I'm curious, though. I suspect not many of us speak Polish. Are you going to translate comics? Or is English okay?

I'll be translating the comics for the sake of the local readers. As to my abilities, I have a BA in English teaching, so I believe I can cope with the task. Unless decided otherwise, cause the level of English around here could use improvement
Also, if there is more material than we can supposedly fit into the upcoming issue, I see no problem in making an basicly English additional issue, that could finally serve promotial aims worldwide.

Cool beans. Any particular format restrictions, other than it being black and white? I'm thinking dimensions and the like

Re: Printed mag cooperation
It is intended for the so called "printers B5", being specifically 170 mm x 240 mm. It is mostly important, if you want to have gutters and bleed edges, if the page has clear margins then that is of lesser importance and I can adjust it easily.
The resolution, for b-w works should be 600DPI preferably, but will do with 300DPI if it's grayscale. Preferably vertical, but it's just a question of the magazine being vertical and that's about it. As for the file format, PNG should easily suffice. If you intend to use a specific font, please either attach or let me know where can I download it.

Re: Printed mag cooperation
This sounds interesting. I'll definitely think about it.
What do we need to do if we're interested. Do you want a sample done or is an "I'm interested, here's a link to my webcomic" enough?

Re: Printed mag cooperation
"Here's a link" is definately enough. We're more interested in the overall story rather - there are two of us who take the final decision of what's "going in" the issue and we ask opinion of several other webcomicers and critics.
The most widely spread solution is you eg. show sketches for the final product or story + storyboards. That's in case if you do not want to risk the comic not to fit into the issue. But in previous cases, if we had more good material than we needed, we just made more pages.

By the way, a cover idea is an option. Featuring four horsemen and a panda bear. The panda bear is compulsory element
Kind of a mascot for the magazine.

Excellent pun, sadly cannot be translated into Polish. Eh, would make a brilliant tagline. Joel to the rescue for all seasons.

Re: Printed mag cooperation
If you want, you can run a grayscale version of a short comic called Cameo that I did a while back. There's only some text, so it wouldn't be hard to translate.
If you wanted a real translation challenge, I did a short comic that can be read backwards for a different story than you get when you read it forwards.

Re: Printed mag cooperation
I like came very much. I'll have to look over it and probably add gutters to, but translating it shouldn't be so hard. Thanks!
As for the other comic, I'm not sure translating it so it makes sense would at all be possible, but it can still run in original version. I'd like to see it.
Thanks for partaking!

Re: Printed mag cooperation
No problem. Do you need a higher resolution version?
The other comic is called Reverb. I did it for a challenge on this board a few months ago.
Here it is forward
And here it is backwards.

Yeah, for gayscale B5 size in 300 DPI should be enough, but yes, I'll need it.
Thanks for Reverb, I'll look to it in a moment.
