Good places to find great manga?
I know about onlinecomics.net and some other ones... anyone know of places to find online manga that are not as well known?
(sorry if this thread already exists, but I couldn't find a recent one) ^_^;;

Your search is over...well not really, but that is my "manga". I use it as a skill building project, and as you can see I am far better at drawing than when I started a good eight months ago.
Also http://viistar.comicgenesis.com/ is an awesome manga by ViiStar, personally I think its the most professional online manga I've seen.
Hope that helps.

How about Japan? Because it's not fucking manga unless it's made in Japan. Anything else is just some sadsack trying to copy something they have NO CLUE ABOUT or even the remotest scintilla of cultural/literary understanding. The worst part is when they try to make it read from right to left for no reason. Also, the fact that about 80% of the online "manga" imitators can't draw shit, but try to use superficial stylistic throwbacks to cover it up.mysticela wrote:I know about onlinecomics.net and some other ones... anyone know of places to find online manga that are not as well known?

thanks guys!
the reason why people like me draw this way is because we truly love the art style, and we would like to bring a little Japan to us when we cannot actually go to Japan and indulge in the culture. Not all of us can hop on a plane and go to Japan.
So please save your angry ranting about "sadsacks" to yourself, when you are in a large community that happens to like manga-style comics...
And as far as the neko's comment goes.... I AM a person who draws Japanese style manga even though I am not Japanese, and I find your comment pretty offensive... you shouldn't be so quick to judgeHow about Japan? So to distract.. I like Flipside a bit, but it's really been drawing out the battle scenes lately.. I'd say No Rest For the Wicked is manga style, and that's great fun.
^_^ lol thanks for the distraction

Oh dear I remember reading that ages ago...Is it just me or did they do a huge style overthrow? I seem to remember it more cartoon-ish manga-like and um...more Colorful?Komiyan wrote:So to distract.. I like Flipside a bit, but it's really been drawing out the battle scenes lately..
I may have it mixed up with something else.

Well, it could be worse. At least manga, which is a regional entertainment form, and has variable styles and subject matters, spawns lovers, wannabes, and hangers-on which have the opportunity to not be so homogenic. Remember what came before the manga explosion? Nothing but bland bulging superheroes and JTHM clones and their horrifyingly bad "random" humor, as far as the eye could see.The Neko wrote:

Plus, is it just me, or is manga losing the strength of its hold on the collective psyche? It just seems to be less everywhere than it used to be.

I think there's starting to be more blending of styles rather than outright imitation. I've always preferred the cartoony realistic look, so it's a happy compromise for me.
And I think the start of the manga explosion and JTHM's popularity were around the same time, mid 90s. It used to be teen girls pretty much only drew in one of those two styles. It's getting better these days, but a great deal of webcomics are still made by new artists who are still finding their own way of doing things and haven't really branched out to experiment yet.
No artist should be content to sit in one style forever, but if someone does experimentation and wants to settle in to calling themselves manga, who cares. It's just a label that makes it easier for their target audience to find them.
This is like the furry vs funny animal thread all over again.

I only admire the guy because at the time he inspired me to actually look at comics. I recently picked up my JTHM book and looked over it and thought, "Damn this comic makes no sense and is utterly unable to hold my attention. What did I see in this story that I am missing now?"Komiyan wrote:"Pig monkey cheese waffle!" *stabs you*bustertheclown wrote:JTHM clones and their horrifyingly bad "random" humor, as far as the eye could see.
God, that was bad :/ All the scratchy art, too. It's no real wonder Jhonen Vasquez hasn't made a comic in years.
