I'm looking into publishing a paper version of my webcomic. The idea is to print off 500 in either b&w or colour and then sell them on the site (and anywhere else for that matter).
Anyone with advice, experience or stories on doing this sort of thing?
DONT USE LEBONFON Sorry for the caps there, but i wanted to add emphasis. They used to be a realy good printer (based in Canada) that specialized on comics and turned out realy nice results. Well, they still specialize in comics, and honestly, they do put out a good-looking book, but they are hell to work with. Your book WILL be late, and you WILL have trouble communicating with them. So, if someone sugests them to you...ask if theyve had anything printed with them in the last year and a half.
For price comparison- My collective just put out a 84 pg b&w comic, with perfect binding, and a full color cover. We got 500 copies, and it cost $1800. That seemed to be in the normal to good price range. We later found someone slightly cheaper, but we found a lot of places that cost more. Getting fewer copies wouldn't have been cheaper, so your probabaly on the right track with that number. I sugest trying to find someone local, who you can work closely with to get a good product. Its cheaper if you dont want full bleed, or if you dont want perfect binding- tho in my opinion perfect binding looks nicest and most proffesional.
