Actually I meant it literally. :)
We're a slightly older crowd because many of us have been doing this for several years--if you polled a crowd of people who'd just started comicing, I think they'd be younger overall.
Sometimes I think I explain myself in too much detail.

Aah, I get it now. It was still a funny line.

Aww, you be strokin' our ego with all that chit-chat!
I'll admit that figuring out CG was a challenge at first. Whether it's intentional or not, the extra obstacles you encounter while signing up for a CG account is a good way to screen out the less-dedicated people. So says I.
For me, I see the typical (web) comic artist as single and male. I dunno, something about geeky guys unable to find dates. Of course, this forum is full of exceptions, but that's still how I see cartoonists.
It didn't really seem all that hard when I joined up, but just hanging around the help forum has taught me that there's a *lot* that can go wrong. And the older people who already have some idea of what they're doing are going to get through that easier.
For a technophobe like myself, I found the sign up process mostly painless, though challenging in a few places, like the whole FTP thing. It's all I can do to have a page with working HTML on it.
Artistic skills and webpage building knowledge seem to go hand-in-hand if you're a webcomic artist, though not everyone is so lucky to be doubly-talented.

Honestly, I badgered friends into doing my coding for me for the first year or so...
Trust me, it ain' easy to tell my girlfriend "hey, I won't see you today 'cause I have to draw"... but hey, I have nothing to complain, she's my greatest supporter!
see that's what's great about my comic and my girlfriend.
"honey, i need to work on comics today"
"okay, can i play with legos too?"
"okay"
lucky. every gf/bf I've ever had has the situation like this.
"okay I'm gonna go draw."
*kisses*
"Okay, really I need to work on my comique"
*More kisses*
"this isn't going to work is it?"
<KittyKatBlack> You look deranged. But I mean that in the nicest way possible. ^_^;
Married 13 years; no kids but we are owned by two dogs and a horse. I have a Bachelor's degree and two years of graduate school (never got around to defending my thesis, so no Master's deg.) College was a long time ago for me.
I stumbled onto <a href="http://www.platinumgrit.com/" target="_blank">Platinum Grit</a> via a link on a blog about four years ago, and therein began my interest in web comics (and graphic novels). Thought I'd try to do my own about a year ago. So I'm still new to the medium.
