Tag/Shout Board/Box
I'm looking to get a shout box type thing to put up on my page, and after reading another thread (hell if I can remember which one it was now) in which Kisai told of a box spawning pop ups, I want to make sure I get one that doesn't suck.
Which shout boxes have and haven't worked for you? Any you like better for any particular reason? Any that should be avoided at all costs?
Inquiring minds want to know and all that.

Go with C-Box. I've had no problems with it.

tag-world.com's pretty easy to use and it looks nice. Been using it for a long while, now.

i'd be VERY CAREFUL when choosing a shoutbox:
1) spam-bots can and will from time to time clog it with crap... you dont want that, your readers dont want that, nobody wants that
2) some shoutboxes actually generate pop-up ads!!!!
I myself use a shoutbox from http://www.shoutmix.com, haven't had anything malign spawn from there...
and just for proof's sake: http://furthiahigh.comicgen.com/ - it has a tagwall which even says "sponsored by bravenet", or friendly everyday interbutt ad company. Dont get shoutboxes sponsored by spam-makers...

I use http://www.tag-board.biz/
Their boards come in two varieties, with popup ads and without. I obviously use the without version.
Occasionally the tagboard server seems to have issues and then it won't load properly. I don't think this interfered with the comic loading, but it did prevent my statcounter from loading, so I think I got artificially low hits that day. (that is, the number of hits going to my other comic pages were normal, but the hits on the page with the tagboard were very low.)
I've yet to have any trouble with spammers (and if I do, I can go in and delete messages and ban IPs from commenting,) but I will probably switch to something better eventually.

I used myshoutbox.com with good results. It had a LOT of different features and a lot of control, but for some reason the default language of the admin was in german, and I had to find a way to switch it to english. There was also the occasional downtime, but lately the service has been top-notch.
I've also heard many good things about C-box, if that helps.

Since there isn't really much I can do about feedback or opinions of my comic (I have no forums), the timing of this thread is perfect. I was going to pretty much ask the same types of questions. Now with all the feedback, I can do a little research and see what works.I'm looking to get a shout box type thing to put up on my page, and after reading another thread (hell if I can remember which one it was now) in which Kisai told of a box spawning pop ups, I want to make sure I get one that doesn't suck.

I also use myshoutbox.com
Other than the language issue mentioned above, it's been fairly reliable. It has IP address blocking functionality, so you can block a problem IP addresses. Haven't used this yet, so I don't know how effective it is if you are getting a lot of spam. I imagine it's also a useful function if you get a really malicious poster.
Plus you can just delete the offending message.

every tagboard or shoutbox i've ever had eventually started throwing up popups, i've just given up on them entirely.

I use this http://www.tag-board.org without issue. I find that they are easy to use, easy to administrate, and their spam-catching is second-to none the best I've seen. The only downside is they are fairly slow at loading, and are down a couple times a month.

I wrote my own. You're welcome to use it but you can't just install it on your Comic Genesis site. You need a little knowledge of HTML and PHP and a site that can run it.

With the help of Fading Aura of If-Then-Else, I've added a content filter so the spambot incidents are highly reduced.
