Comics on your Wii?

Post by C.w. »

Yesterday, hearing about the new version of google reader with special Wii functionality got me thinking, and late last night i hacked together a simple Javascript doodad for my website that maps the next and previous buttons to left and right on the controller. (BTW - if you have a Wii, i'd love your feedback on it)

I'm just curious if anyone actually uses their Wii (or PS3 or other web-on-the-television sort of thing) to look at comics. Even if you don't, do you take into consideration other devices (PDAs, mobiles, whatever) when you write your website, or is it just not worth it to you?

Why bother? Everyone's just gonna be browsing porn sites anyways.

Brings new meaning to "playing with your Wii."

Unfortunately, I don't have other forms of connection to the internet. The only thing I take into consideration when I code my site is browser size. I try to keep things within an acceptable range for most screens (from 800x600 up). Thus the reason everything is centered and does not go past 600 pixels in width on the site.

I am curious to see if my site would show up well on the Wii.

If you ever need help website / tech-wise...don't hesitate to ask! =)

I have enough trouble just trying to make my sites browser cross-compatible without using scripts to get IE to display properly.

From the last couple of surveys that I've seen, 800x600 is pretty much dying out (at least among those that responded) so I'm now aiming more at the 1024 market. I've also changed my font sizes from px to em so that people with mega-monitors won't have their nose up against the screen trying to read tiny text.

I was curious and decided to just do it for the heck of it. I've been learning javascript recently, and i've been doing lots of small projects like this.

Just load Opera 9, and set it to about 800x500 px. That's essentially the Wii browser. There's a few minor differences, like the fact that the Wii only has one font, but nothing collossal. Opera's handy during testing because of its small screen rendering option too.

Why would have have to alter your site?

As long as your site works in Opera shouldn't it work in the Wii Browser?

I think the point is to map the next and previous buttons to the Wii left and right buttons. Normal navigation would work normally, but this would be an extra feature just for the Wii.

Oh I see...well that's kind of pointless.
